Car-sharing is already very popular in EsB and over 30% of staff have said that they would be interested in car-sharing in a recent staff survey. sharyn McMenamin and Declan Furlong from iT services have been car-sharing for a number of years on their daily commute to and from Kildare. According to sharyn “carsharing offers many benefits. it saves money because you share fuel costs, and the daily commute is less stressful as you are not behind the steering wheel every day”. Car-sharing also reduces your carbon footprint and will lead to less congestion if there are fewer single-occupant cars on the road On the car-sharing website there is a ‘Public Lifts’ section that is open to the entire car-sharing community. There is also a dedicated ‘EsB’ car-sharing group. We recommend that you use the EsB Group section if you are planning to use the site for commuting to and from work or business travel. Access to this group is restricted to holders of a valid EsB email address. n Full details about signing-up and using the car-sharing site, as well as an ESB disclaimer, are available in the Smarter Travel workplaces section of the Sustainability Intranet site. ESb ecar and charge point in the Science Gallery Café. Electric Dreams Competition science Gallery and EsB ecars launched an ‘Electric Dreams’ competition as part of the Green Machines exhibition at the gallery in Trinity College. The general public are invited to dream up an idea for the next generation mobile app to allow seamless communication between the driver, the smart ecar and the network of charging stations. The winner will be given the chance to drive an ecar for one month and to participate in the EsB ecars trial. EsB ecars Marketing and Communications Manager Dervla O’Flaherty said, “Ecars are super-connected cars with sophisticated communications systems allowing you, the ecar and the charge point network to interact, opening up a world of exciting new opportunities. We’re looking for innovative ideas and the best one will be rewarded with a fantastic opportunity to drive an ecar for one month in early 2011.” said. The competition runs until Monday December 1st and is open to the general public. An ecar and a public charge point are on display in science Gallery café until Friday December 17th. n Appreciation James Oliver Purcell Departed friends Name Location Anne O’Connor Ballycoolin Christopher Kellaghan Rhode Station Frank Guckian Midland & West NW John Kane Leopardstown Road James Larkin Dublin North NW Michael English Midland & West NW Monica Kelly South West NW Bridget Sweeney Bellacorrick Station Samuel Sheridan Dublin Central & South NW Lena Gaffney Dublin Central & South NW Anne Deering Dublin Central & South NW Brendan Currid Midland & West NW JJ Bracken Metering & Data Services NW Paddy Coyle Dublin Central & South NW Departed 25/09/2010 11/09/2010 01/10/2010 02/10/2010 03/10/2010 03/10/2010 30/9/2010 25/07/2010 02/10/2010 10/10/2010 11/10/2010 12/10/2010 15/10/2010 14/10/2010 Mary Griffin South West NW Mary Hayes Marina Station Elizabeth Humphreys Customer Supply Margaret Moloney Poolbeg Station Willie Kirwan Telecoms Services Eamonn O’Malley Bellacorrick Station Barbara Davis Marina Station Margaret Kirby South East NW Dora Chambers Dublin Central & South NW Anthony Power Retired Peat Stations Maurice O’Sullivan Chief Civil Engineer Michael Daly Retired Peat Stations Barry O’Mahony Midland & West NW Hubert Rooney Midland & West Bridget Maloney Dublin North & Dundalk NW Philip McGovern Marketing Dept CS 12/10/2010 20/10/2010 25/10/2010 22/10/2010 24/10/2010 22/10/2010 23/10/2010 25/10/2010 28/10/2010 23/10/2010 03/11/2010 03/11/2010 30/10/2010 08/11/2010 11/11/2010 12/11/2010 Grace.
