8 NEWS Aug/Sept 2010 www.esb.ie/em Continuing ESB initiative for children with disabilities THe CHIeF executive, Padraig mcmanus, introduced an eSb educational bursary Scheme for Children with Disabilities in 2007. This very progressive initiative is due to run again this year. The Scheme consists of two bursaries to the value of €2,000 per recipient per year, up to a maximum of four years. This educational bursary supports eSb’s commitments to equality & Diversity and Corporate Social responsibility. The purpose of this initiative is to help children who have a qualifying disability, but who cannot avail of the separate eSb education Awards Scheme due to CAO/ HeTAC points or grade requirements. To qualify, children must be aged 16 and above, and have an enduring physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual disability. The final decision regarding eligibility will rest with the eSb Occupational Health Specialist. The educational bursary Scheme will apply to such qualifying children who are not in employment and are primarily dependent on their parents/guardians for support, and who are attending an educational institute or pursuing some form of further education. The eSb education bursary scheme is open to eligible dependent children of regular full-time staff and regular part-time staff currently employed in eSb/eSbI, to children of staff in receipt of ongoing VSS payments and to children of retired and deceased staff. Children who are eligible to apply for the separate eSb education Awards Scheme and who meet the entry conditions specified by CAO / HeTAC (or equivalent accrediting institution), are not eligible to apply for the eSb education bursary. There is a limit of one entry per student, and a family may be in receipt of only one eSb education bursary or education Award at any time. under the 1997 Finance Act, this bursary is subject to benefit-In-Kind (bIK) Tax. n Bursary Applications are now being accepted. The List of Conditions, Application Forms and further information are available by phoning 01-7027091 or internal extn. 27091. Completed forms should be sent before Friday 15th. Italian Institute of Culture holds event for ESB Italian Society THe ISTITuTO Italiano di Cultura (IIC or ‘Istituto’) was established in Ireland in 1954. It is situated in Fitzwilliam Square, just a couple of minutes from eSb Head Office. The Istituto was founded with the aim of fostering and increasing cultural links between Ireland and Italy. It carries out a range of joint Irish-Italian initiatives, supported by a Cultural Agreement between the two countries, signed in 1984, covering the fields of education, culture and science. The Istituto recently held a special event for the eSb Italian Society. Society members were welcomed by the Istituto’s staff and given an extensive tour of the Istituto’s facilities, which include a library, audiovisual resources, language courses and function and meeting rooms. This was followed by a buffet lunch of delicious Italian specialties. Angela Tangianu, IIC Director, said that she was delighted to meet the eSb Italian Society and was very impressed by what she had learnt of eSb’s activities in Ireland and Pictured (l-r): Dario Calcagni, Colin Cummins, Steve Johnson, robert Sadlier, John Traynor, angela Tangianu (Director, italian institute of Culture), Miriam Graham, Frank Gilmartin, antonio Digangi, anne Slevin Cheque this - 500th cycle to work grant awarded Sustainability, pg 30 internationally.
