KEY INITIATIVES

PHASING OUT COAL
Coal combustion for
electricity and heat is the
biggest single source of
global CO2 emissions,
representing around 42%
of total emissions. WWF
and partners will conduct
national studies and
research to demonstrate
to government and
business in a large
number of countries that
renewables are sufficiently
affordable, reliable and
scalable to replace coal.

VALUING FOOD,
REDUCING WASTE

CONVERSION-FREE
LANDSCAPES

GREEN BONDS FOR
GREENER INVESTMENT

No human activity
has greater impact on
the planet than food
production. Yet despite
these costs, we still
waste a lot of food − on
farms, in transit and at
supermarkets, restaurants
and in homes. WWF is
working to transform
businesses and behaviours
across the full supply
chain to recapture
food's lost value.

Habitats are being
converted at an alarming
and unsustainable rate,
with food production
one of the biggest causes.
We will work on
systems-level solutions
to save critical landscapes
from conversion. Our
focus will therefore be on
whole environments and
societies, with an
emphasis on restoring
degraded land, rather
than on individual
commodities or farms.

Used to finance
investments in
environmentally
sustainable projects (e.g.,
renewable energy, clean
transport, etc.), green
bonds have the potential
to generate environmental
impact at scale, with
annual issuances growing
more than 90% per year.
WWF is working with
international standards
setters and regulators to
design effective, credible
standards and drive
implementation.
