KEY INITIATIVES CORAL REEF RESCUE The world has lost half of its coral reefs, threatening marine biodiversity and millions of people. In collaboration with communities and partners, we will develop solutions at an unprecedented scale to remove local threats to the most resilient reefs, which can also replenish others - saving their magnificent biodiversity and improving the lives of 120 million reef-dependant people. BANKING ON FINANCE TO SAVE RIVER BASINS SAVING ICONIC FREE-FLOWING RIVERS With water stress increasing worldwide, the investment landscape for river basins needs to be transformed. WWF will catalyse a stream of bankable projects to redirect substantial financial flows into sustainable projects. Ranging from clean-tech investments to solar energy and natural flood protection, these projects will improve freshwater ecosystems while providing investors with risk adjusted returns. Free-flowing rivers are the equivalent of wilderness areas and essential to millions of people, but poorly-planned dams and infrastructure are wrecking them. WWF seeks to save the world's remaining iconic free-flowing rivers by co-creating alternative energy plans that reduce demand for hydropower, securing new legal protections, and launching innovative stop-bad-dam campaigns.
