Annual Review 2015 - 17

© Global Warming Images / WWF 195 In Paris in December, 195 countries signed up to an unprecedented global agreement to combat climate change - the culmination of years of advocacy work by WWF and others through the United Nations climate change process. 1.5°C The Paris Agreement promises efforts to limit average global temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. We were one of the first organizations to advocate this more ambitious target and were delighted that it was included in the final agreement. 1,000 While current government pledges fall well short of what's needed to stay below 1.5°C, cities and businesses are beginning to pick up the slack. 1,000 cities committed to 100 per cent renewable energy and/or to 80 per cent greenhouse gas reductions by 2050, while more than 100 major businesses promised emissions reductions in line with science, as part of the WWF-supported Science-Based Targets Initiative.
