Seneca launch
in to Property
Jeff Morton, Managing Director of Seneca's
recently launched property investment arm,
explains what attracted him to join the
Seneca team, and how he sees Seneca Property
developing in the coming years. Jeff is an
experienced real estate professional, formerly
an equity partner at a property private equity
firm, and previously a Managing Director at
BlackRock, and Head of Investment for the £3
Billion BlackRock UK Property Fund.

So how did you come to be
involved with Seneca Property?
I worked for a number of years in London with my
Seneca Property co-founder Chris Bullough and
thoroughly enjoyed the experience. When Chris
moved back to the north to join Seneca in 2016 we
stayed in touch and when he explained that Seneca
were seeking to add a property investment arm to its
existing business, I was interested to meet the team
and find out more. Having done so I came away
exceptionally impressed by the quality and depth of
experience of the Seneca team. A further attraction
was the outstanding relationships that Seneca has
with its investors and the wider northern business
community which I believe is well deserved and
offers the property team a great opportunity.

Can you tell us a bit about your
own property background?
I'm a Chartered Surveyor who has worked in real
estate for over 30 years. I was fortunate to have
received fantastic guidance and experiences
right at the outset in both investment and asset
management specifically, all of which set up my
passion and enthusiasm for the industry. I was
able to grow my career successfully in some
excellent property businesses and I have held
a number of interesting and challenging roles
with a high degree of responsibility, including
Head of Asset Management at Merrill Lynch
Investment Management and Head of Investment
at BlackRock's UK property fund. I have invested
several billion pounds successfully into UK &
European property markets across a truly diverse
range of asset classes all during varying economic
times. I am particularly focused and experienced
in delivering strategic investment performance,
team leadership and profitable risk adjusted
returns, and ultimately being held accountable to
investors for the business.
