Onside met with the no nonsense Chairman
of Seneca Partners, Michael Beverley to
find out what drives him and uncover more
about the values he instils in his businesses.

What is your background?
Professionally I spent the first 28 years of my
business career with Arthur Andersen where I
climbed the ranks to become UK Regional and
Senior Managing Partner. I was responsible for
3,500 people, across 11 offices and achieved a
turnover in excess of £350 million. Upon retiring
from Arthur Andersen in August 2001 I pursued
other interests. I founded various healthcare and
property businesses. I'm majority shareholder
and Group Vice Chairman of OneMedicalGroup,
which has two inter-connected businesses. Firstly,
it delivers Primary Care Registered patient and
Urgent Care services under contracts from the
NHS. Secondly, it procures for GP practices the
construction of and retains as investments, modern
medical centres. My daughter Rachel works in the
OneMedicalGroup as Group Chief Executive having
co-founded the business with me. She is supremely
capable and working alongside her and seeing her
grow with the business has been a real source of
satisfaction and enjoyment, with the occasional
differences of view.

Can you tell us a bit more about
OneMedicalGroup?
When we took our first steps in to the world of
healthcare I knew very little about the NHS. For the
most part we have had to learn on the job. Taking
that forward to today however, OneMedicalGroup
is now a well-established, nationally recognised
and award-winning healthcare solutions provider
to the NHS. We haven't gotten here entirely by
accident however. Keen management and a focus
on efficiencies has helped us reach the milestones

we have conquered so far. We have been successful
in using our knowledge of medical centre design to
improve patient care by providing clinicians with
modern and efficient space. OneMedicalGroup is
comprised of 12 properties across 11 locations
that incorporate over 300 people. Rachel and I
are joined on the board by my long-term friend
and former Worldwide Chairman of Accenture,
Sir Vernon Ellis. Our steadfastness is evidenced
through Vernon's involvement and is one of the
core strengths of the company.

"If you don't enjoy something then
don't do it"

You're clearly a passionate man.
What motivates you?
I am a firm believer in the mantra, "If you don't
enjoy something or have a genuine passion to do
it, then don't do it at all". Furthermore, I have a
strong work ethic, I like to get things done and not
merely standby. I demand a lot of those around
me so I have to outwardly display the same
characteristics on a personal level. Leading by
example rather than by unnecessary delegation
is a powerful tool. I am motivated on a daily basis
by those around me. If you surround yourself with
talented, hungry and inspired individuals then
self-motivation comes easily. OneMedicalGroup
and Seneca fit the bill in that respect perfectly.
