In summary, many new developments in AF are coming into focus in routine clinical practice in 2016 including the broader use of NOACs overall and in patients with
HF and non-MS, nonprosthetic valvular heart disease; the
appropriate selection of patients for catheter ablation and
encouragement to participate in ongoing clinical trials;
and the emergence of new biomarkers such as atrial fibrosis (which can be measured on cardiac MRI) to personalize decision making when considering referral for such
interventions.
