B&S Lighting has doubled its
remote phosphor lighting lineup.
The phenomenal success of their Area
48 super powerful soft lights, with
interchangeable remote phosphor
panels, ushered the way for new
remote phosphor fixtures from the
Danish lighting manufacturer. And
while we saw the first pipe-shaped
Pipeline fixtures stand-alone and a
few light banks last year, this year the
name of the BB&S game is versatility,
with more sizes, more customisable
options, and more kits now with hard
and padded cases and bags.
Expanded Lineup for Versatile Uses
BB&S Lighting has doubled the
number of its Pipeline lighting
fixtures to offer even more utility
to filmmakers, lighting designers,
gaffers, and corporate videographers.
"The reason why," explains BB&S
Founder Peter Plesner, is that
"professionals in the cinema industry
use lights differently than television
studios, broadcast news and field
production units. And both of those
have different needs than a corporate
video department or a house of
worship. But Pipeline's high colour
rendering and versatile form-factor
make them the go-to fixtures for all
of those applications." So while the
technology is similar, users have
different requirements. This year
BB&S is ready to fill those needs.
LED Pipeline
Just 1-inch in diameter, Pipeline's
cylindrical Pipes emit a high 98 TLCI
remote phosphor LED light, spread
over 180 degrees. Among Pipeline's
advantages are low power draw (10W
per foot), high output (1,000 lumens
per foot) and wide light dispersion - all
with heatless and fan-less operation.
They are available in 10-20V to run
on batteries or 48V versions
that dim all the
way down to zero,
and are uniquely
precise even in the
last 5%, when most

lights fall off. But it's really about
the clean light quality that wows
users immediately, and that remains
consistent over the years due to the
remote phosphor technology that
separates the LED light emitters from
the colour rendering phosphors,
eliminating heat degradation over
time that other LED lights suffer from.
And although they look elegant, even
the stand-alone Pipes feature a halfinch thick phosphor covering and a
rigid aluminium back, making them
deceptively rugged.
Free or Raw: Singles Suit the Need
At NAB, BB&S introduced a
new, fit-anywhere four-inch
size (picture illuminating a car
cockpit with this tiny unit hidden
along the gearshift) to join their
lineup of 1-foot, 2-foot, 3-foot
and 4-foot lengths. Each is
available in 3200°K, 4300°K or
5600°K colour temperatures.
They can be mounted virtually
anywhere: on the ceiling, on
a C-stand, in a doorway, or
tucked away in a vehicle to get

just the right eye light on the driver.
The four-inch Pipes are easily hidden
in nooks and crannies in background
pieces, and dialled in to just the right
dimming level.
To
suit
versatile
lighting
requirements, individual Pipes come
in two basic versions: Free or Raw, in
4-inch, 1-foot, 2-foot, 3-foot or 4-foot
lengths. The Free fixtures feature
dedicated dimmer/drivers to control
the output and feed power. They are
power versatile via 12V automobile
battery, 14.4V battery via D-tap, or AC
adapter.
The
Raws
are
made
for
customisation, with a threepin XLR plug allowing users to
control the configuration. BB&S
makes a four-way Controller for
the Raw Pipes.

Bank on Them
While 2016 saw the successful
introduction of 3-foot and 4-foot
4-Banks in 3200°K, 4300°K or 5600°K,
and tweakable Bi-Colour, 2017 adds
new Rawbanks to the lineup. Compact
Rawbanks are available in 1-foot,
4-bank and 2-foot, 2-bank systems.
Optimum control is achieved with
the optional four-way Controller.
And an array of mounting options
eases set-up and handling. With their
slim profile, lightweight build, and
durability, these new banks are ideal
for the growing number of corporate
and web studios.
Standard Kits or Kit them yourself
Another advance is BB&S' new
bags and cases. Some are specially
designed for BB&S' new kits while
others are available alone for
customised kits. Ideal to pack, ship
and store Pipeline Free and Raw
individual fixtures, banks, and
accessories, new BB&S Padded Cases
have
honeycomb-stiffened
walls
covered in durable Cordura. Softcovered interiors and fabric dividers
protect the contents and organise the
gear. Available in various sizes they
are a fitting partner for 4-banks and
Rawbanks.
BBS' new Pipeline Raw Remote
Phosphor Ready Go Kits stand by for
quick deployment. With a rugged
clamshell style design, these cases fit
eight Raw fixtures that are controlled
by two four-way Controllers with 8/16
bit DMX, strobe, 48V power supplies
and accessories for 3-foot and 4-foot
Pipes. With a choice of 3200°, 4300°
or 5600°K systems, and ample room
for optional accessories, they are
travel-ready.
The 1-foot 2-foot, 3-foot and 4-foot
Free fixtures are available in an
array of new kits that each feature a
BB&S Roll-up canvas bag, that also
fits power supplies and cold shoe
adapters.
