atesAir (stand 8.C30) has spent
the last decade evolving the
possibilities of Audio over IP transport
for the purpose of wireless over-theair content delivery. These innovations
took shape in the company's Intraplex
range, long a standard-bearer for E1/
T1 connectivity for moving audio and
data content between studios and
transmitter sites.
The first true IP products took shape
in their NetXpress systems and has
now evolved to a broad portfolio
of IP codecs that comprise the IP
Link range. These codecs all provide
basic essential needs for reliable and
efficient Audio over IP transport,
including GatesAir's unique Dynamic
Stream Splicing technology to mitigate
IP packet loss and eliminate off-air
time, forward error correction, and a
trio of network interfaces for optimal

stream reliability. New innovations
at IBC demonstrate the broad
opportunities and highly efficient
nature of reliably moving content
over IP networks for contribution and
distribution purposes.
Broadcasters are looking for more
flexible transport options along
with a way to minimise bandwidth
consumption. The new IP Link MPXp
codec addresses the thirst for more
signal transport options from a single
box at very low bitrates. While the
initial release in April cut the industrystandard bandwidth consumption
for uncompressed AES 192 digital
composite signal transport in half, the
latest release further reduces those
bitrates from the already
industry-low 1.8Mb/s to an
even more efficient 1.65Mb/s.
This exceptional bandwidth

efficiency
opens
more headroom for
increased
packet
protection, as well
as additional audio
and data services.
The
Intraplex
IP Link MPXp is the first FM MPX
IP codec to support - separately
or together - AES 192 digital and
analogue composite signals over a
secure and reliable digital IP path
from a single codec. Its flexible
dual-domain capability allows the
broadcaster to install a newer audio
processor supporting AES 192 and
have it interoperate with an exciter
supporting only analogue composite

Orban Releases NeuStar
Air2 Codec Pre-Conditioner

rban, a leader in world-class
audio processing, has announced
the availability of the Orban NeuStar
Air2 codec pre-conditioner.
Designed to significantly improve
the quality of lossy, compressed
audio, the NeuStar Air2 codec preconditioner provides perceived audio
quality of twice the effective bit-rate.
The NeuStar Air2 was specifically
designed to improve the sonic
performance of low bit-rate internet
streams, HD Radio multicasts, DAB/
DAB+ and DRM channels.
Orban's proprietary codec preprocessing engine has been specially
tuned for operation at 24kbps,
32kbps, 48kbps, 64kbps and 128kbps
rates with any codec including HE-AAC
v2.
The NeuStar Air2 made its official
debut at NAB 2017 and is available for
immediate shipment.

In all Orban introduced 12 new
processing products ranging from
a new top-of-the-line Optimod-FM
processor to a suite of openGear cards
for stereo and 5.1 surround TV.
New in the Optimod-FM line are:
*	 5500i - now with a full-featured
RDS / RBDS generator with PS
scrolling;
*	 5700i - now with full-featured
RDS / RBDS generator with PS
scrolling, as well as FM and HD
outputs;
*	 8600Si - now with FM and HD
outputs;
*	 8700i - includes a processed lowlatency headphone output, Dante AoIP
(AES 67) and Orban's newly patented
Xponential Loudness algorithm.
For the TV, Mastering and
Production industries is the iMix 5.1

signal interface today. This
provides a transitional path for a
future digital exciter upgrade.
GatesAir is also strengthening
its IP networking capabilities
for local and national DAB
Radio networks. Our latest
high-efficiency VHF transmitter,
the Maxiva VAXTE, was first
introduced for VHF television
and has now added DAB Radio
modulation. The transmitter
features reduced energy usage,
very high-power density, and
streamlined
maintenance.
It
offers input connections to
accommodate the EDI protocol for
IP-based audio contribution and
distribution across DAB networks.
The transmitter's integrated Maxiva
XTE exciter provides the native IP
connectivity required to support
multipoint IP networking across
many transmitter sites - while also
enabling connectivity for legacy ETI
contribution and distribution.

Headphone Monitor, a monitor that
provides accurate rendering of 5.1
images in the user's headphones
without the use of artificial ambience
or special encoding. Of interest to
OB trucks and live TV productions
is Orban's demonstration of a
3D intercom that clearly isolates
individual intercom channels to spatial
points in headphones.

Headphone monitor;
OTV-510 - Low-latency 5.1 Surround

Production and Transmission using

loudness
measurement and Orban's exclusive
OPTIMOD TV loudness control;
OTV-MUX HD - a high-quality
program audio embedder for up to
eight AES audio channels into a 3G/
HD/SD SDI signal, providing sample
rate conversion, summing with gain of
+10dB, audio delay up to one second
and channel invert;
OTV-DMX HD - a high-quality
programme audio de-embedder for up
to eight AES channels from a 3G/HD/
SD SDI signal.
