IDX Batteries - Safer by Design
Some day all Lithium-Ion batteries
will be made this way...

T

here is much discussion in the
media about the perceived safety
concerns of Lithium-Ion battery
technology. IDX Technology maintains
that if properly implemented, the
technology is not only safe, but also
constitutes the best solution for
powering portable equipment used
throughout the broadcast industry.
Safety and reliability is designed
into all IDX batteries
from the sourcing of the

cells to the housing in which they are
contained.
IDX works closely with Panasonic /
Sanyo, sourcing matched cells selected
for electrical load, longer life cycles,
temperature tolerances, and cost.
Jointly developed safety technology
safeguards against over current, over
charge, over discharge, and exposure
to extreme temperatures.
First introduced in the DUO
battery range in 2013, all new IDX
battery designs incorporate a
honeycomb internal structure
that effectively isolates each
Li-Ion cell from its neighbour. In
Japan this is seen as a significant
safety measure and forms part
of their PSE law which governs
electrical appliance safety in
Japan.
Although not mandatory in
Europe, the benefits are selfevident because the structure

IDX was established in Tokyo, Japan
in 1989, and established sales and
support offices in the U.S.A. and
England in 1994. As pioneers in the
use of Lithium-Ion, IDX was the first

batteries to meet the needs of camera
users who demanded more power and
less battery weight.
IDX built on that award-winning
Lithium Ion NP success by introducing
the ENDURA System with revolutionary
features such as Powerlink-the ability
to stack a second battery to double
the power and run-time available.
Five generations on from the E-50 that
launched in April 2000, the current
E-HL9 Powerlink models is the battery
of choice for most broadcasters
and hire companies throughout
Europe. It will be further
developed into a new compatible
model in 2017 and customers are
invited to request a wish list of
additional features at the IDX stand
at IBC.
In the pursuit of quality and value
for money, IDX has not ignored
the impact to the environment.
Since 2005, IDX in Japan has received

ISO 14001:2004, the Environmental
Management System certification.
This standard assures IDX's ongoing
commitment to achieving the best
environmental practises at every level.
This is evidenced by the introduction
of two new battery chargers, the VL2X and the VL-2000S. Both feature
Auto Power management which
automatically shuts the units off
when they are not in active use, which
reduces power consumption and
waste. The VL-2000s also features a
Life Plus Mode to increase battery life
by up to 20 percent.
