Strength in Depth
Brainstorm's expertise in election night graphics
spans many years and is a particular strength of
the company. In 2005 Brainstorm, which already
enjoyed an extensive experience in collaborating
with worldwide broadcasters and productions
facilities, signed a contract with BBC News to
produce the program and graphics for the
local and general elections of 2005 and 2006,
and the program was later awarded by the
Royal Television Society. BBC News renewed
this multi-year contract with Brainstorm
to provide election coverage graphics that
are fast, flexible and compelling. CNBC chose
eStudio as its 3D real-time render engine, and
other companies like Acccuweather, NASDAQ or
Al Jazeera also relied on Brainstorm to empower
its graphics. The 2008 US Elections provided an
excellent window to Brainstorm, as it was selected
by NBC for its coverage.
Brainstorm acquired the Aston brand in 2009,
the renowned character generator that was already
developing a 3D CG based on the eStudio render
engine, starting a new range of graphics products.
Along with IDS, Brainstorm provided graphics
support for the High Definition 3D live production
of the 2011 Wimbledon Tennis Championship, and
many other events such as Roland Garros.
Between 2005 and 2011, the BBC partnered with
Brainstorm for their election coverage on general,
European, local and even American elections.
Brainstorm recreated in 3D locations such as
Downing Street or the House of Commons and
built virtual sets designed by BBC artists. All kinds
of complex 3D graphics like "swingometers", line
graphs, touch screens, histograms, 3D maps, etc.,
were displayed into the virtual sets and modified in
real-time as new data was available.
In 2008 Brainstorm covered the American
election on both sides of the ocean, for BBC and
NBC, which in fact are quite aware of the raw power
of eStudio as it manages as much as 4,900 HDTV
graphics per day at CNBC. 2011 saw an amazing
Augmented Reality show for the Antena 3 TV's
coverage of the Spanish Elections.
In 2016 the latest technology developed for
InfinitySet allowed RTVE in Spain to broadcast
the most advanced Election Night coverage yet
seen, combining live projection mapping, talent
teletransportation to the Houses of Parliament,
Augmented Reality Graphics and much more. Also,
the RAI in Italy created an amazing AR show for The
Voice, using eStudio.
Brainstorm is also a member of the IABM
(International
Association
of
Broadcast
Manufacturers) and the NAB (National Association
of Broadcasters).

Aston animations are based on StormLogic,
Brainstorm's approach to intuitive template
interaction, a tree structure of folders that defines
the logic between templates. Created just by
dragging and dropping templates in the desired
place in the folder structure, each folder defines the
behavior of the objects it contains. Aston supports
data driven graphics with or without scripting. A
single production can have unlimited input sources
(XML, RSS, etc.) and scripting allows for crossreferences between data. This can lead to highly
complex animations, especially useful in Sports
or Election Nights, where enormous amounts of
data must be presented in a comprehensible and
graphically compelling way. Data are automatically
presented, animated and ordered.
