At NAB Show, Bluebell is demonstrating the Silhouette line of rugged,
deployable, high-density mixed-technology media converters...

T

he heart of the Silhouette powerinsertion product family for
robotic cameras in remote-production
scenarios, the Silhouette is a fully
integrated 4K UHD robotic head system

that works with SD-SDI, HD-SDI, 3G-SDI,
and 4K UHD cameras to provide power
and control to the camera head and
fiber optic connectivity for the remote
control panel. As a result, operators no
longer need to rely on stadium power.
The customizable Silhouette comes
in three sizes and can accommodate
any combination of 4K HDR, quad
3G-SDI, tri-level sync, GigE, serial data
control, communications, IFB, and
multichannel audio signals. Customers
can choose to get power from a
12V DC supply, a V-Mount battery,
a hybrid cable, or a combination
of the three. Introduced at
IBC2017, Silhouette units
are deployed all over
the world in sports,
theater, and music
venues.

New to the Silhouette powerinsertion family are the Silhouette
Combine4 and Combine8 converters,
which will make their global debut at
the 2018 NAB Show.
The Combine4 and Combine8 let
users replace four or eight SMPTE
hybrid cables with just one. The units
fit between the camera and the CCU
on up to eight camera channels to
eliminate rigging time, transport
weight, and fault-finding.

ShaxX, Combine4 and Combine8
can be configured for two identical
hybrid I/Os. The Diverse Option helps
eliminate the worry of losing all
cameras on a shoot if someone cuts
the hybrid cable. In that case, two
identical connections carrying identical
payload can be diversely routed
between camera and CCU. The systems
deploy self-healing ring topology, so
users won't notice a glitch.

AB Show marks the North
American debut of greater
conversion capabilities of MultiDyne
Fiber Optic Solutions' VF-9000 fiber
transport platform for bulk transport.
On display at Booth C6818, the VF9000 addresses the growing need for
higher signal density, format flexibility
and operational versatility in a fiber
transport frame.
"The VF-9000 is a very simple and
intuitive system for brute-force signal
trunking and transport, with the
versatility to handle almost any mix
of signals the user can dream of," said
Frank Jachetta, President, MultiDyne.
"And its intrinsic scalability as a frame
means it can become part of a larger
fiber transport system as needed,
such as with our FiberNet solution.
MultiDyne continues to innovate new
solutions that remove virtually any
limitations of fiber transport."
The higher signal density of the

VF-9000 is especially useful for
customers working in ENG,
sports production and
other
applications
with
high
channel
counts.
Users
can
support up to 36 video
signal conversions across
HD, 3Gb/s and 12G from
one unit, with automatic
configuration of all inputs and
outputs based on several parameters.
For example, in dual-transmit mode,
each front-panel optical module
(SFP) immediately converts the
two corresponding BNC copper
connections on the back panel to
video inputs. In dual-receiver mode,
the corresponding BNCs automatically
convert to video outputs. Transceiver
SFPs are also supported for maximum
operational flexibility.

combination of optical and copper

connections to achieve the desired
balance of inputs and outputs. The VF9000 automatically recognizes the SFP
module connections, and transitions to
the proper configuration upon coming
online. A robust multiplexer feature,
effortlessly combines 18 signals over
one single-mode fiber for efficient,
high-density signal transport.
MultiDyne is demonstrating new hotswappable flexibility that takes further
advantage of the system's card-based
architecture. VF-9000 users can
now replace any of the video with an

Ethernet fiber converter, SYNC, HDMIto-SDI, audio or data.
Many additional
fiber and non-fiber
conversion
cards
will be available
throughout 2018.
The
VF-9000
further
strengthens
operational
versatility
by
enabling
signal
regeneration and wavelength shifting
within the same frame. A GUI interface
ensures visibility of signal health and
conversion status across all inputs
and outputs, as well as internal parts
such as fans and power supplies. The
system also differentiates itself from
competitive systems by offering two
hot- swappable AC power supplies to
establish redundancy, eliminating the
need to fiddle with external power
supplies in fast-paced live production
environments.
