PESA Expands
Streaming Solutions
at NAB Show 2015
PESA's booth at NAB Show is the place to see innovation...

A

t the 2015 NAB Show in Las Vegas,
PESA's booth will reﬂect three
of the company's core competencies:
traditional broadcast television routing
and signal management support with
integrated streaming; mobile command
and control (C22) distribution systems;
and the expanding PESA XSTREAM
streaming products family.
Following last year's award-winning
technology demonstration at NAB
Show, PESA Live Services (PLS) is
shipping and redeﬁning the live event
experience. Available for Android
and iOS devices, PLS creates a new
way to produce and consume live
content. To the viewer, it's a multichannel, interactive, branded, and
socially integrated experience. For
the producer, it's a way to reach
audiences, on their terms, while
delivering ads, branding, and live
messages. PESA is offering PLS for
private and webcast productions.
Streaming technology continues to
grow in importance for broadcasters,
and PESA is setting the pace with
PESA XSTREAM. Last year, the
company introduced the C22 compact
streaming appliance, which can
compress, stream, and share high
quality content between locations, as
well as enable streaming in existing
video distribution. As part of a larger
hybrid broadcast system or standalone
streaming appliance, the C22 can be
conﬁgured as a two-port video encoder
or two-port decoder, or can include
one of each. Two units can be paired
to allow bidirectional live interaction
between sites.

Building on last year's successful
C22 debut, PESA will demonstrate
the new PESA Blade System
(PBS) at NAB Show 2015.
Developed to serve high
density encoding and
decoding requirements -
and integrate streaming
into
the
broadcast
ecosystem - the new system
provides up to 20 channels of H.264
encoding or decoding in a proprietary
2 RU chassis, which can be controlled
through Cattrax, PESA's Windowsbased system control software.
PESA will show a Cheetah router
at NAB controlled by the PERC 3000
router control system, working with
two PBS units, each populated with
C22 cards. The encode chassis will
convert streams to SDI video so they
can be routed via the Cheetah. The
decode chassis will take SDI sources
from the Cheetah and encode them so
they are available for streaming.
At NAB, PESA will also announce
1080i support for the PESA XSTREAM
C58 and compact C22 streaming
appliances. Plus, PESA has developed
a C22 card that is compliant with the
openGear standard, thus adding PESA
encoding and decoding streaming
technologies to the 300+ openGear
solutions, from more than 50 vendors
that support the open architecture
platform.
Without a doubt, 4K will once again
be a hot topic at NAB Show. PESA not
only offers new Cheetah routers in
multiple conﬁgurations to manage
4K signals, but can convert existing

3G-SDI Cheetah routers to accept 4K
video, with a simple plug and play
upgrade.
The 4K I/O card is a direct dropin replacement for the standard
16-channel HD/3G-SDI card found
in current Cheetah frames. Any size
Cheetah 3G-SDI routing switcher can
be retroﬁtted with the new Cheetah
4K I/O card system by replacing
any existing 16-channel I/O card set
and reconﬁguring the software to
accept the new 4K cards. Both UHDTV
(3840x2160) and DCI (4096x2160)
are supported, and the router can mix
and match between 4K CWDM and
traditional copper or ﬁbre I/O in the
frame. Once conﬁgured for 4K, the
router can run both 4K and 3G-SDI
signals in parallel.
Plus, PESA will be part of the
StudioXperience at NAB Show,
showcasing its new integration with
the NewTek TriCaster production
system, which includes the C22
streaming appliance and openGear
card, as well as a new 32x32 router
designed to handle baseband sources.
The same integration will also
be demonstrated on Sunday,
April 12, during the NewTek
Worldwide Reseller Meeting
at the Westin Casuarina in Las
Vegas.
Also, be sure to look up when
you visit the PESA booth. An
L-3 APEX unmanned aerial
vehicle (UAV) suspended above
the booth will be equipped
with an HD-SDI camera feeding
video to a C22 in the booth.

The technology demo will show the
integration between command and
control, streaming video, and the
use of UAVs and drones, which can
be used to support broadcasters for
trafﬁc and weather reports, as well as
non-broadcast construction and ﬁrst
responder applications.
With support from integration
partner VIQ Solutions, PESA will
demonstrate a new digital media
management ecosystem for ﬁxed,
mobile, and body-worn applications.
Ideal for ﬁrst responders/incident
command,
law
enforcement,
training, and evaluation applications,
the deployable system includes
annotation,
recording/playback
management, multi-tiered archiving,
and optional streaming functionality.
Other PESA innovations will include
a technology preview of its upgraded
Vidblox extenders, which offer
HDMI support as well as selectable
transmission and receiver functionality
in the same module.
