t is time to take your show on the
road. Broadcast Pix is introducing
Roadie, a mobile integrated production
switcher at the 2015 NAB Show in April
in Las Vegas, NV. With built-in HD
streaming and recording, as well as
Broadcast Pix's patented Fluent Control
toolset, Roadie delivers a complete
end-to-end
production
workﬂow
that simpliﬁes and streamlines live
production on location for a single
operator, or small staff.
Broadcast Pix systems have been
used in the ﬁeld for years. Many
are installed in mobile production
units and ﬂypacks, anchoring live
coverage of sports and other events
for
broadcasters,
government
access channels, and schools.
Roadie continues the tradition of live
production on location, but it is the
ﬁrst system built by Broadcast Pix that
is speciﬁcally tailored for mobility.

production switcher features three
SDI/HDMI inputs and one SDI/HDMI/
analog input, eight internal channels
(two clip and six graphics), one SDI/
HDMI/analog out, and four balanced
(1/4 inch TRS), and two AES (BNC)
audio I/O. Roadie supports embedded
audio and can mix it with clip audio.
Designed to meet the growing
demands of live production, Roadie
can include cloud-based content from
Skype, Twitter, and other resources.
The system automatically ingests and
scales all sources,
while
maintaining
lip
sync.
Roadie
also includes builtin Wi-Fi as well as
two network inputs,
to
accommodate
a
hotspot
for
connecting to cloudbased services, or
connecting an iPad for
system control.

Camera control is a very popular
feature. Ideal for any live production
environment with limited crew, it
allows operators to seamlessly control
camera positions, angles, zoom, and
lenses, directly through the Fluent
Control workﬂow. Cameras can be
adjusted with variable acceleration
to create the perfect live shot, and
Fluent Macros can further simplify and
automate camera moves. Plus, using
Roadie's Fluent-View, thumbnails of
each camera preset position allow
quick and error free camera selections.
PixPlay is an ideal option for a
Roadie system that will be used for
live sports production, because it
allows any Broadcast Pix integrated

production switcher to provide slow
motion control to a Blackmagic Design
HyperDeck or AJA Video Systems Ki
Pro disk recorder. Originally developed
as a cost effective solution so game
ofﬁcials could review footage for high
school and college sports, PixPlay can
also be used during production for
almost any sports application.
An operator can replay footage
manually using controls on the front
panel of the HyperDeck Studio or
Ki Pro. With PixPlay, however, VTR
control is ported to the production
switcher along with six preset replay
speeds. Users can also "scrub" or
single step through a scene for better
control and functionality. PixPlay also
includes an unlimited number of "in"
points as part of a playback EDL, which
instantly cues the proper scenes. All
scoring plays during a football match,
for example, can be selected and cued
for instant playback at one of PixPlay's
preset replay speeds.
