O ur industry is at an important juncture where we're close to adopting a number of new technologies which are going to make huge inroads into faster and more efficient workflows. The ability to produce content remotely is something we know is interesting to our customers. The broadcast infrastructures are very much there to do this, we're just waiting for a proactive approach from telcos for the right connectivity. Gearhouse recently demonstrated the functionality of remote production at our London HQ to some of the UKs biggest broadcasters. Once the right infrastructure is in place and is as reliable as it needs to be, there are huge financial and operational benefits to be had by content producers and broadcasters. Crews will largely be able to operate from a home production base with the familiarity of their own equipment and overall less time will be needed to rig facilities in the field. Before this happens we'll also Gearhouse demonstrates Remote Production need to see some interesting steps towards full IP adoption. Even though it's already being widely used for a number of functions, I think this hybrid route will evolve to full integration of IP infrastructures. We're also going to need to see an evolution in vision mixers and processors before entire infrastructures can rely entirely on IP. We're also seeing key players in the production process taking smaller steps towards 4K as the implementation of the technology. Camera technology appears to be moving toward the benefits that high dynamic range can offer production. Another step broadcasters will make before the full adoption of 4K is the inclusion of 4K glass into its workflow. Earlier this year we saw Fujinon announce a box lens aimed at sports production and we've heard rumours of a UHD barrel lens from them at this year's IBC. The implementation of this glass is a big sign post on the road to total 4K adoption. Within OB builds, we also know Gearhouse OBLite bigger doesn't always mean better. The industry is expected to produce more with less without excluding outside broadcast operations. We're seeing more demand for small to medium OB facilities rather than supertrucks. Our idea for OBLite supported this and aimed to pack a smaller unit with the power to do the job of a larger facility. This saves rigging time and Capex from our customers. It seems like we've been waiting on these new technologies for a while and we're looking forward to seeing how workflows will improve with their implementation. As an industry we're almost there but as always, the last mile is always the longest.http://www.inbroadcast.com http://www.gearhousebroadcast.com/ http://www.ibc.org/Exhibitor/Gearhouse-Broadcast http://www.gearhousebroadcast.com/
