KVM-over-IP

Asia's
broadcast
professionals will meet in Singapore
from 26-28 June 2018 to find out more
about the latest products and trends of
the future.
With their matrix switch for KVMover-IP™, German KVM manufacturers
Guntermann und Drunck present such
a future-oriented device. The new
ControlCenter-IP enables distributed
switching of computer signals via
standard IP-based networks on layer 3.
Following the portfolio expansion
with extender systems based on KVMover-IP, the IP-based matrix now offers
double flexibility, so that even the
largest installations can be operated
over IP. In combination with IP
extender systems, the ControlCenterIP forms a powerful KVM-over-IP
matrix that enables the switching of
all connected transmitter and receiver
modules and extends the usability and
flexibility of broadcast applications.
Encryption of video, keyboard, mouse
and control data with AES-128 ensures
secure and reliable operation.
While network switches and routers
transmit IP packets from A to B,
the ControlCenter-IP takes over the
central system logic and optimises the
accessibility of all devices by enabling
switching between transmitter and
receiver modules (CONs and CPUs).
Operators are able to benefit from
a high-performance G&D matrix
environment while at the same time
using the advantages of a flexible
network. Due to the flexible system
topology, installations can be scaled
as required and extended via standard
network elements. Transmission takes
place with CAT cabling via standard
IP-based networks on layer 3 and via
a Gigabit Ethernet. The transmission
length is almost unlimited; two active
network components can be connected
to each other over a length of up to
100 m via CAT.
Pixel-perfect video transmission
DisplayPort 1.1 signals are processed
pixel-perfectly and with very good
hand-eye coordination. The system
also supports video resolutions up

to 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz or 3840
x 2160 @ 30 Hz. Coming soon will
be more devices for DVI, dual link
and DisplayPort 1.2. Thus, the
ControlCenter-IP will support the
extending and switching of 4K @ 60
Hz. Based on G&D's proven mix-andmatch concept, the new devices will
also be combinable and compatible
with each other to ensure maximum
flexibility and expandability.
Signal transmission is compressed,
lossless, and almost latency-free,
whereby G&D do not reduce the
sharpness during transmission, but use
their in-house compression method,
High Dynamic Image Processing, in
the latest development stage, level 3.
It enables the lossless transmission of
video signals and provides optimum
image quality.
Proven variety of functions
The popular control room features
of the ControlCenter series have
also been integrated into the new
KVM-over-IP matrix. They include
functionalities such as monitoring
and SNMP, a scripting function and
scenario switching, the push-get
function or CrossDisplay-Switching
for the intuitive operation at multimonitor workstations.
In addition to their new KVM
products for KVM-over-IP, G&D will be
showcasing other powerful solutions
from their classic KVM portfolio
at BroadcastAsia and providing
comprehensive technical consulting
for individual projects.

BroadcastAsia 2018.

developments, and what's on show from
the company at BroadcastAsia 2018...
InBroadcast: Has BroadcastAsia
come at a good time for the media
industry? Why?
Loki Ong: Most definitely. Over the
last few years, we have witnessed
many changes within the broadcast
industry; from analogue to current
4K, and soon 8K, which Japan will be
broadcasting the summer Olympics
with. Many Asian broadcasters have
embraced IT and are starting to
embrace IP, knowing that everything is
very much integrated via IP.
InB: What do you think are the key
developments in, or threats to, your
market sector at the current time?
LO: While the market adopts IP and
understands the benefits, such as
flexibility and scalability, there is still
plenty of room to consistently educate.
And, to communicate the opportunities
of IP solution, with reference to
commercial viability. There is also
the concern of security over IP since
hacking was never a problem in SDI.
Despite this, there are techniques
and technologies that are time tested
and proven with regards to network
security, to keep network safe from
intrusion.
InB: How is the company
positioning itself for the future of
broadcasting?
LO: Adder is one of the early
adopters for IP-based technology.
We have a suite of KVM switches,
extenders, and IP solutions, which
allow reliable local or remote control,
for the current mobile workforce. We
are constantly looking forward and
keeping pace with industry demands,
to provide solutions in this space.
InB: Are the latest technological
advancements revolutionising how
manufacturers determine new
product offerings? How challenging
is it to address these issues and
keep ahead?
LO: It is an ongoing cycle of demand
from the market, and to supply to this
demand based on current available
technology. We are constantly listening
to the market, our business partners
and our end customers to understand
their pain in their daily engagement of

their business and their jobs. We strive
to resolve their challenges through
better products and solutions.
InB: Is the increase in live
production requirements changing
the sector in any way?
LO: With the increase in IP adoption
within the industry, broadcasters
are able to get live productions out
to viewers with more efficient use
of resources. However, this drives
the demand of bandwidth, which
affects the rate and quality of data
transfer. Likewise, with the market
demanding more live production,
broadcasters need to transform their
analogue infrastructure to IP in order
to maintain competitiveness within the
industry.
InB: Why should delegates visit
your stand at BroadcastAsia?
LO: We understand broadcasters'
challenges of real estate scarcity
within their production area; be it
within the studio or an OB van. We
have recently launched ADDERLink
Infinity 100T (ALIF100T) to address
this demand. The ALIF100T is the
world's smallest IP-based, USB
powered KVM transmitter that can be
plugged into any computer directly.
The size of the transmitter is about
the size of a deck of playing cards and
there is no need for a cumbersome
power adapter to be attached to it,
