With
productions
increasingly
requiring the use of surround or multichannel spatial reproduction, a new
ambisonic mic is made available from
RØDE. The SoundField NT-SF1 device
features four heads which records
separate signals (the 'A-format')
output over an XLR cable attached
to the bottom of the handle. The
A-Format is not intended to be used
without further processing and is
normally transformed into the second
set of audio signals, the B-Format
for manipulation offline. These are
accessing via a free plug-in compatible
with leading audio editors like Pro
Tools and Reaper. According to RØDE
it delivers "broadcast grade" signals
with very low noise, and
includes a windshield,
cable and shock mount
holder.
In
2007,
Apple
introduced the Apple
ProRes codec, providing
real-time,
multistream
editing performance and
reduced storage rates
for 4:2:2 and 4:4:4:4
video. Now, it's developed
ProRes
RAW
which
applied to a sensor's
pristine
image
data
rather than conventional
image pixels.
There
are
two
compression levels: Apple
ProRes RAW and ProRes
RAW HQ with additional
RØDE's SoundField
ambisonic mic

quality available at the
latter's higher data
rate.
Compressionrelated

artefacts are "very
unlikely" with ProRes
RAW, and "extremely
DaVinci unlikely" with ProRes
Resolve

DJI debuted two advanced gimbal
controls for high-end cinematography;

complex shots and/or fast moving
ones using DJI's own Ronin 2 and

theorised to move from the current
programme-centric to a storycentric process, where content is
automatically produced, targeted and
distributed to the viewer.
Not as far-fetched as it sounds,
the first stages of this are already
happening in news and sports
production where the vast amounts
of video generated on a
daily basis are already
making manual
search
and
discovery hugely
problematic. AI/
ML engines can
be applied in the
news and sports
room to extract
metadata from video as it
is ingested.
Notables at NAB include
a sub-US$4000 appliance
from Axle ai that
integrates face and object
recognition and lowres proxy collaboration
and includes a panel for
Premiere Pro CC. Prime

inked
a
partnership
with metadata specialist

Adobe describes its AI, Sensei, as
a combination of "computational
creativity, experience intelligence and
content understanding" and continues
to apply it to Adobe Premiere Pro.
New at NAB is analysis of colour and
light values from a reference image
which in turn are applied to match a
current shot. The final adjustment can
then be saved as a 'Look' which can be
applied to other shots. Face detection
capabilities can also assist in skin tone
