KBS Inaugurates
President & CEO
KOR: Mr Yang Sung-dong has been
inaugurated as the 23rd President
and CEO of the Korean Broadcasting
System (KBS).
South Korea's President Moon Jae-in
appointed him as chief of the nation's
leading public service broadcaster.
At his inauguration on April 9, Mr
Yang emphasised his commitment to
recreating KBS as the most trusted
media organisation in the country.
Mr Yang was recommended by an Ad
Hoc Public Advisory Group, created
as part of the selection process of
new KBS President and CEO. The
group, consisting of 142 members of
the general public, assesed his views
on public broadcasting. In a series
of presentation and Q&A sessions,
Mr Yang's future strategies and
plans for KBS were also
examined by the group.

Gravity Media's
APAC Director
JPN / GBR: Gravity Media Group has
appointed Masahiko (Masa) Kata as
its Director Of Business Development
for the APAC region.
Masa joins from Hitachi Kokusai
Electronic, where he has worked
since 1981 and was most
recently Corporate Officer and
General Manager of its Video
and
Communications
Systems
Business Unit. Masa commented:
"I'm delighted to be joining such a
forward-thinking and innovative
organisation in Gravity Media. I've
seen first-hand how it embraces
new technologies to better serve
its customers, and this sort of
commitment and technical insight is
greatly appreciated by broadcasters,
content creators and rights owners
within Asia-Pacific."
Based in Tokyo this new role
has been created to help bring

and innovative approaches to
the Asia-Pacific market.

Globecast Names
MD For Asia Region
SIN / FRA: Globecast has named
Jimmy Kim as Managing Director of
Globecast in Asia.
In his new position, Kim will drive
Globecast's continued success in
this dynamic market, expanding its
customer base and building upon the
company's long-term objectives.
Kim brings a wealth of industry
knowledge and leadership skills
to his new role, with more than 20
years' experience in the technology
and media business. He joins
Globecast from MNC Media, where
he held the title of Senior Vice
President and was responsible for
content acquisition and distribution,
channel operation and licensing and
merchandising. Prior to that he
held several high-level positions
at prominent organisations
such as Ustream Korea, Viacom
International Media Networks, and
Bloomberg TV Asia Pacific.

Imagine Assists Fiji TV
News Facility Upgrade

has
successfully completed a significant
project for Fiji Television, transitioning
the broadcast operations of Fiji One to
a new, custom-built greenfield site.
The project was accomplished
without interruption to Fiji One's 24/7
news channel, which is one of the most
popular and trusted news networks in
the APAC region.
"Our requirements were for a new,
contemporary platform that would
enable Fiji One to grow and enhance
the premium news services we
provide to our viewers, but without
compromising the key operational

workflows that our news and technical
teams rely on today," said Karen
Lobendahn, CEO of Fiji TV. "We
needed a technology partner capable
of assisting with this transition within
extremely tight deadlines, as well as
implementing a new platform that
we could use immediately, with no
downtime, and with minimal training
overhead."
Imagine provided the core of the
news operation, including four Nexio+
AMP HD video servers and Versio
IOX SAN high-performance online
shared storage, running as software
instances on standard Hewlett-Packard

Enterprise servers.
Alongside the storage network,
Imagine also provided Fibre Channel
switches and a Platinum VX router for
baseband switching.
The new network also includes a
Nexio NLE Gateway server to allow
full integration of Apple Final Cut Pro
editing tools.
The newsroom installation was a key
part of Fiji TV's overall move to a new
site.

Philippines' ABS-CBN Upgrades
With Lawo Audio Consoles

hilippines-based
ABS-CBN
Corporation, has upgraded two
control rooms at its TV production
studios in Quezon City with identical
Lawo mc²56 audio consoles.
The new consoles replaced two dated
desks and were installed by Broadcast
Communications International, the
main contractor for the upgrade.
The IP-based Lawo production
consoles - each with 64 faders and
providing 270 DSP channels, a routing
capacity of 5120 x 5120 crosspoints,
integrated Waves SoundGrid servers
and connectivity via four DALLIS
I/O frames - mark the first Lawo
equipment installations in the
Philippines.
