2018 NAB Show - Part II

some of the latest equipment on show in NAB...

T

he following NAB preview
supplements Part I, published in
last month's edition of InBroadcast
and accessible here (click thumbnail). It
concentrates as ever on new equipment
and software and, not intentionally,
reflects the continuing integration of IP
into what is rapidly becoming an SDI/IP
hybrid industry.
AJA's 2TB Pak 2000 SSD media can
hold more than four hours of 4K/
UltraHD ProRes (HQ), three hours of
ProRes 4444 at 30p, and up to two
hours ProRes (HQ) or 90 minutes of
ProRes 4444 at 60p.
Antelope's Ultra live broadcast
camera is based on a 2/3-inch CMOS
4K/UHD chip. The head measures
120 x 47 x 47mm and weighs 340g.
The camera operates at 23.98, 24,
25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, 60 Hz
progressive and has shutter speeds of
1/25 to 1/10,000 second.
Artel will demonstrate an end-toend network highlighting the SMPTE
ST 2110 and AES67 audio-over-IP
accuracy capabilities of its Quarra PTP
Ethernet switches. Interoperability
between its content delivery platform
and other IP-based products will also
be shown.
Camera Corps, on the Vitec Group
stand, will demonstrate the new DMR
(Dual Mini Remote), a fully remote
controlled camera mount. Primarily
devised to carry a high motion camera
for behind-the-goal football replays,
the DMR is equally suitable across
other genres such as entertainment
where more than one movement and

a flowing live camera move might
be required. It allows motorised
control of the lateral and,
optionally, the vertical angle of
a counter-balanced carbon-fibre
support arm. The arm itself can be
up to 3m in length. An additional
fully independent drive governs
the camera pan and tilt
angles. The DMR system
is fully weatherproof and
compatible with many camera
makes and models, the default
recommendation being a Camera
Corps Clarity which can capture HD at
up to 480fps and is therefore suitable
for slow-motion applications.
Clear-Com will present its enhanced
LQ Series of IP interfaces that enable
seamless
connection
between
intercom systems over IP. LQ also
interfaces with third-party SIP/VoIP
telephony and existing intercom
systems, allowing intercom users
to make direct telephone calls over
connected SIP-based phone systems.
Also on show will be the Agent-IC app
which turns Android and Apple iOS

devices into mobile intercom
panels via WiFi or cellular networks.
Dalim's MD-LX is an HDMI and 3G/
HS.SD-SDI bi-directional converter in
a 60 x 74 x 23mm metal housing. It
supports 3G Level A and B and allows
for conversion between both.
EditShare will be exhibiting new
capabilities across its XStream
EFS storage, Flow media asset
management,
Quales
automated
quality check and file verification, and
XStream EFS 40NL nearline storage
offerings. The new XStream EFS
Auditing Dashboard is designed
to mitigate potential hacking and
content theft. EditShare will be
showing how its new softwaredefined Flow media asset
management platform expands
remote workflow opportunities
and collaboration.
EVS' new XT series live production
server offers higher 4K-UHD
channel density (up to six channels)

and optimised bandwidth for live
production in UHD, HD or 1080p. It
offers SMPTE ST2110 support as well
as the opportunity to deploy fastmotion cameras when operating in
an IP infrastructure. EVS will also
present Xeebra 2.0, the latest version
of its multicamera review system.
Users can view up to 16 camera angles
that remain entirely in sync, select
preferred angles on the system's
touchscreen and zoom into the images
using a touch-and-pinch gesture.
Xeebra's client/server architecture
means that it can be deployed on
the sidelines, in a production
control room or further away in a
centralised media hub. Version 2 will
feature a new AI integration which
automatically calibrates the field
of play.
Hoodman's
HoodLoupe
attachment
converts
the
LCD of a typical
D-SLR
camera
into a monoscope
eyepiece. with +/-3
diopter adjustment.
It has a three-lens
optical module which accepts
multiple mounting bases. To save
space, the optical module separates
from the base to nest over the optical
module. HoodLoupe integrates with
all Hoodman live view mounting
plates for hands-free use. The neck
lanyard provided can be upgraded to a
retractable lanyard that clips to a belt.
Jünger's
AIXpressor
audio
processing platform acts as a base for
software-defined products that are
created using Jünger's new Flexible
Audio Infrastructure.
