OTT Video Revenues
Will Continue To Grow
Thanks to the Cloud, big data analytics and VR
technologies, OTT revenues will continue to increase,

T

he latest data from Juniper
Research found that global OTT
revenues will reach US$120 billion in
2022, up from US$64 billion in 2017.
The research also estimates that over
a quarter of global households will
subscribe to SVOD services by 2022.
As pay-TV operators look to address
the growing consumer demand for
TV Everywhere services and drive
new revenue, several innovative
technologies have emerged to help
them achieve those goals in the most
efficient and cost-effective manner
possible.
As of January 2016, Netflix became a
completely Cloud-native infrastructure

company. Other service providers
are beginning to follow in the
footsteps of Netflix, choosing
Cloud-based service delivery
models over hardware in order
to increase agility, reduce CAPEX,
and speed up time to market
for OTT offerings. With a Cloudbased offering like ViaccessOrca's Cloud TV Platform as a
Service (TVaaS), service providers
can move away from a traditional
infrastructure that requires massive
upfront investments and takes a long
time to deploy, adopting a fully hosted
and managed OPEX model with no inhouse infrastructure. Service providers
that have invested in extensive

while gradually incorporating Cloud
services in order to take advantage of

the Cloud's scalability and elasticity
without
ditching
their
current
operations. In this case, models
that allow hybrid configurations,
which integrate on premise and
Cloud systems, are required. The
OTT industry is fast-moving and
competitive, and the Cloud enables
operators can launch TVE Everywhere
services instantly, and scale it up or
down as needed.

The use of big data and analytics are
also making a significant impact on
OTT services, enabling operators to
deliver more contextually relevant
content to increase subscriber
satisfaction with the service. With data
analytics, operators can get instant
and comprehensive visibility into their
business performance, easily identify
the products and content that viewers
like, and create upsell opportunities,
based on actual viewing and
browsing patterns to increase their
revenue streams. What's more,
the practicality of analytics goes
beyond content personalisation.
Operators today are also using
data to boost content efficiency,
prevent piracy, and provide virtual
reality (VR) television experiences.
In the VR environment, operators
can
review
viewers'
physical
interactions via head-mounted devices
and other connected wearable devices.
By
adopting
next-generation
technologies like the Cloud, big data,
analytics, and VR service providers can
differentiate themselves in the OTT
environment, becoming more efficient,
flexible and capable of delivering
contextually-rich and ultra-personal
video content on every screen.
