Qvest Media Equips
ARD And ZDF
KOR / GER: Qvest Media supplied
the latest technology from its
rental pool in order to set up
a networked, live production
platform in the IBC in Pyeongchang
and in the NBC in Leipzig for ARD
and ZDF.
Central ingest, highlight editing
and playout were performed with
an EVS installation.
Qvest Media supplied ZDF with
an Avid Interplay system for
permanent integration within its
mobile production unit.
The equipment will also be used for
the Paralympics.

Globecast Asia
Selects DataMiner
SIN: Globecast has deployed the
award-winning DataMiner solution
from Skyline Communications.
This allows Globecast in Asia to
automatically check subtitles as
well as to monitor uplinks and
multiple satellite transponders,
enhancing value for its broadcast
customers beyond SLAs.
In multilingual Asia, local language
subtitles are the key to a channel's
success. With Globecast in Asia's
growing number of customers,
installing a proactive, automated
system that allows detailed
subtitle monitoring was essential.

SPH Radio Expansion
SIN: Established Singapore-based
systems integrator GBS Alliance
was appointed as a key integrator
for SPH Radio's expansion project.
"DHD Broadcast consoles and
routers met the requirements and
given GBS Alliance's excellent track
record, it was an easy decision
to award the contract to GBS
Alliance," said Mr Ian Huang, SPH
Radio's Head of Engineering.
The works included a new MCR, two
new studio floors and the overhaul
of two existing studios for two
further radio stations.

the Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

consisted of pre-tested EnGo mobile
transmitters, batteries, chargers,
backpacks and a provision of regionspecific SIM cards which provide
cellular connectivity from different
carriers in South Korea for optimal
performance in the local mobile
network environment.
Speaking prior to the Games,

ATEME Enables Next Gen Winter
Games Coverage

RAL-TV, NBC Universal, and
NAB, selected ATEME's TITAN
compression solution to help enable
the first ever public demonstration
of the ATSC 3.0 broadcast television
standard.
The broadcasting and technology
partners worked together to deliver
the Winter Games from PyeongChang
to an audience at an event at North
Carolina State University, in 4K UHD
video.

Marking the first overthe-air broadcast of the
new Dolby AC4 format,
the transmission used
LDM (Layer Division
Multiplexing) technology
and new interactive applications
to enhance the TV experience for
viewers.
Walid Hamri, VP of Solutions and
Business Development at ATEME,
described the transmission as, "a
fantastic demonstration
of the new broadcast
television standard, and
we're thrilled to have
been involved in such a
pioneering project".

He said: "ATSC 3.0
represents the future
of technology in this
industry, and our TITAN
compression

utilised in this Winter
Games
presentation
is helping to offer the
ultimate new viewing

experience."
NBC provided the 4K UHD feed
featuring HDR and WCG, and Dolby AC4
audio.
Three applications were developed
using HTML5 and combined broadcast
and broadband content to provide
an interactive programme guide,
VOD content plus user customisable
and
up-to-the-minute
statistics,
athlete profiles and country specific
information.

Fujifilm Fujinon Provides On-Site
Service And Support

provided on-site technical service and
support for FUJINON lenses.
Engineers from Fujifilm's American,
European and Japanese branches,
along with the company's local Korean
service representative, were on hand
from February 1 to assist customers
throughout the Winter Games.
Fujifilm's fully accredited Technical
Support team provided service to all
FUJINON lens customers from its base

of operations at the CBC Television
facilities in the International Broadcast
Center (IBC) and directly on-site at any
venue as needed.
The events in PyeongChang began
on Friday, February 9 and finished on
Sunday, February 25.
