Professional Media Over Managed
IP Networks.

The first documents in the SMPTE

'Squid' Grip

USA: K-Tek has introduced the
Squid, a multi-purpose mounting
solution to connect a transmitter,
monitor, mobile device or remote
to a boom pole, tripod, handgrip or
other tube shaped object.
Made of strong elastic silicone,
the lightweight Squid solidly holds
the device and shields equipment,
acting like a shock absorber.
With no snaps, buckles or hook and
loop fabric to break, the low-profile
robust Squid lets the user easily
view controls and status monitors.

FilmLight Colours
'50s Wonder Wheel
W

oody Allen's story set in and
around the famous Coney Island
amusement park in 1950s New York,
Wonder Wheel required a convincing
period look and feel.
The creative team established a
collaborative colour pipeline relying
on the Baselight Linked Grade (BLG)
render-free workflow provided by the
tools from FilmLight.
Wonder Wheel, from Amazon
Studios, reunites Allen with veteran
cinematographer Vittorio Storaro,
who was behind the camera for
Allen's Café Society. The movie also
reunites colourist Anthony Raffaele of
Technicolor PostWorks New York and
DIT Simone d'Arcangelo.
Working closely together, core looks
were created by Raffaele in Baselight
and then d'Arcangelo used FilmLight's

Prelight application on set, which not
only imposed these looks on the raw
footage, but gave him the opportunity
to adjust the grade to meet the needs
of Storaro and Allen.
The 1950s setting of the movie
meant a lot of VFX. The apartment at

the centre of the story, for example,
is in the middle of the park, and
replicating the studio interior to VFX
exteriors called for careful matching.
Wonder Wheel went on general
release on December 1, 2017.

Lawo Expands US Operations
L

awo has expanded its US
operations, adding personnel and
opening a new support and logistics
hub in Elmsford, New York.
Triple the size and capacity of its
previous facility, Lawo's new hub
will serve as warehouse, test facility,
training centre and East Coast Sales
and Support office.
This new facility complements Lawo's
existing US headquarters in New York

City, West Coast Sales and Support
office in Los Angeles, and Canadian
headquarters in Toronto.
To oversee operations at the new
hub, Ricardo Martinez has assumed
the position of North-American
Logistics and Support Coordinator.
Martinez holds a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Business Management and
comes to Lawo from his previous
post as Operations Supervisor with

Autonomic Controls.
Lawo has also hired Hans Juergens as
Broadcast Engineer for pre- and postsales technical support. This addition
complements the recent appointment
of David Antoine to Lawo's team of
US-based support experts. Juergens
is well-known for his work as a staff
and contract engineer for respected
companies such as ABC, CBS, NBC,
ESPN and Vyvx Solutions, and most
recently was a Mobile Unit Engineer for
NEP Broadcasting.
