SBS Inks Expansion Deal
With Dalet
A

ustralia's Special Broadcasting
Service (SBS) is significantly
expanding the portion of its media
operations powered by the Dalet Galaxy
Media Asset Management (MAM) and
Orchestration platform.
The new implementation will
facilitate production and distribution
of news, sports, radio programmes in
multiple languages and music content
across the broadcaster's TV, radio and
digital platforms.
The new deployment will bolster
SBS's production capability prior to the
2018 FIFA World Cup.
Building
on
the
successful
integration of dozens of systems and
automation of several programme
management workflows under a
unified Dalet Galaxy environment,
the
expanded
installation
will
now encompass news and sports
production as well as the full radio
automation for SBS music channels.
This will deliver production content

to three TV channels, eight radio
channels (music and talk show), the
SBS website and online apps. SBS's
radio programming is produced in
more than 70 languages, making it the
most linguistically diverse broadcaster
globally. In addition to the 2018 FIFA
Football World Cup, the production
of other sporting events that will be
facilitated by the new integration
include tier-one events such as the
Tour de France and English Premiere
League.
The system will be deployed across
four sites including SBS headquarters
in Sydney, connected production
operation in Melbourne, a third system
in Canberra, and a Business Continuity
(BC) / Disaster Recovery (DR) site also
in Sydney.
Dalet will unify content preparation,
production and ingest at two TV
studios and eight radio studios in
Sydney and an additional eight
radio studios in Melbourne, bringing

together up to 300 simultaneous users
working with the system. Video ingest
for 50 channels spread across the
country, alongside multiple channels
of audio ingest, will be centrally
managed under the control of Dalet.
The Dalet AmberFin media processing
platform will assist with transcoding as
required.
Dalet On-the-Go will also be available

to connect journalists in the field
directly to the central Dalet Galaxy
platform. Dalet OneCut is provided for
desktop editing and remote editing
at the Canberra studios. Industrystandard, BPMN 2.0-compliant Dalet
Workflow Engine automates multiplatform publishing, including social
media workflows, as well as archiving
operations.

t NAB New York, Pronology will
showcase its CenterPoint Core
media asset management (MAM)
platform, mRes standalone multiresolution encoder, and Screener, a
multi-channel, file-based production
screening device.
Pronology's Web and Windows-based
CenterPoint Core asset management
system utilises a flexible workflow
engine that simplifies the daily tasks
of end-to-end content creation,
management and distribution. It
provides users the option of working
in the Cloud, via an internal Intranet
or a secure Pronology-hosted network.
By utilising a standard Web-browser as

its primary interface, CenterPoint Core
allows a limitless number of users to
simultaneously and remotely perform
the following actions: acquire, organise
and transcode from ingest; complete
real-time logging, sub-clipping and
storyboarding; remotely manage
approvals efficiently and archiving.
The platform also offers significant
social media/CMS distribution and the
in-place management of pre-existing
media via a volume-based indexing
update.
Pronology's
mRes
standalone
multi-resolution encoder is the
company's first standalone encoder.
mRes seamlessly records three tiers
of uncompressed video per SDI
input channel prior to compression
and wrapping, without missing a
frame of action: a high-resolution
media file, an edit proxy and a live
Web-streamable proxy, all while
offering users flexibility and ease
CenterPoint of use at a low cost point. mRes

integrates with most storage
systems, such as Avid ISIS and
Small Tree. It also integrates
with various NLE systems,
supporting growing clips for
edit-while-capture workflows.
mRes
This unique, uncompressed
recording architecture allows mRes
to provide various file formats
without any loss of quality or signal
degradation. When using mRes, a
production team now has access
to the content they need, in any of
the required compression formats,
instantaneously.
Pronology's Screener is specifically
aimed at directors, producers and
other industry professionals working in
studio, mobile, sporting and a variety
of other environments. Screener
replaces legacy DVD recorders that
have been traditionally used for
screening and offers a wealth of
additional features that are useful for
modern production.

Creating universally playable MP4
files, Screener is unique in that it is
not solely a screening device. It can
also visually watermark with text or
graphics, record a timecode overlay,
run on a standard PC or other off-theshelf hardware and offers multiple
channels per installation. It allows
HD-SDI playback functionality in
multiple resolutions and can create
sub-clips. This allows operators to
extract timecode-specific portions of
a recording that can easily be viewed
as well as securely shared for review
and approval. Screener enables users
to easily copy clips to network storage
paths and removable storage devices,
primarily USB 3 thumb drives.
