Fujifilm/Fujinon Offers
0% Financing Scheme
T

he Optical Devices Division of
Fujifilm is offering 0% financing,
through Novation Vendor Services.
The scheme is available for all
Fujinon 4K and HD broadcast lenses
and the Premier HK 4K+ and Cabrio 4K
range of cinema-style lenses.
"We want to make it easier for our
customers to buy exactly the lens
or lenses they want," said Thomas
Fletcher, Director of Sales, Fujifilm
Optical Devices Division. "We're able
to provide this program thanks to
Brandon Brooks at Novation. After
working as the Finance Director for
several years in the video and cinema
production industry, he's uniquely
qualified because he understands the
owner/operator, rental house and
production company business."
Brooks has been involved as
a Finance Manager since 2008,
managing transactions between the
manufacturer or dealer, the customer,

and the equipment
financing company.
During that time,
he's cultivated solid
banking relationships
and developed a
specialty in vendordriven
financing.
According to Brooks,
there
are
three
types of customers
looking for equipment loans: owner/
operators; small to medium-sized
rental houses; and large-scale vendors
and production houses with many
locations.
"I've worked with all three
extensively over the past several
years," said Brooks. "I understand
their individual needs and have been
able to educate the equipment finance
companies I work with. Whether you're
an owner/operator or a large company,
the equipment they use is just as

important in generating future income.
It's not difficult to obtain financing, but
it takes knowledge of your customer's
business and relationships with the
banks to get your customer approved
with a term that's fair and reasonable.
For example, some customers may
need a buffer of 30 days before making
a payment, so they can start booking
jobs and making money with the
equipment."
Fujifilm/Fujinon's initial customer of

this 0% financing program was New
York-based Technological Cinevideo
Services (TCS), a camera equipment
rental house who financed a Premier
PL Mount 75-400mm T2.8 - T2.8 zoom.
TCS President Erik Schietinger, who
co-owns the company with his brother,
TCS' VP and COO, Oliver Schietinger,
said: "Working with finance people like

your business
is
a
rare
pleasure. He
knows about
the
range
of equipment we
use and our clientele need,
so we can engage in well-rounded
conversations. We talk about how we
work and what would increase our
success, in addition to financing. We're
thrilled that we were able to purchase
our new PL 75-400mm zoom with
zero percent financing. It's just a good
business deal for us all around."
In addition to 0% for 24 months,
Fujinon is offering 3.99% for 36
months and 4.99% for 48 months.

With QuineBox IoT
Q

uineBox IoT promises to change
production workflows as the
camera is no longer a disconnected
entity on-set waiting until the files are
copied and transcoded at the end of the
day.
QuineBox IoT records conformable
files into edit and dailies format
directly from the camera SDI, and
immediately ships them to their final
destination over WiFi or 4G. This makes
the camera a connected device that
dynamically interacts directly with the
rest of the production.
The main development partner, the
Norwegian Broadcast Corporation
which has used prototype units over 12
months of shoots, estimates that for a
drama production, it saves three to five
man-hours per camera per day, using
QuineBox IoT.
QuineBox's free and optional
integration module, Qi is an ingest,
transcode and workflow application.
Qi will synch varispeed files to dailies

and editorials and synchronise
missing files at ingest. A major
update of Qi is expected
in November where the
integration with QuineBox
and the ability to transcode
most file-types at ingest are
included. Qi is an advanced
logging and conform tool that
keeps metadata consistent
when you go from editorial to
post/VFX.
Qi
has
become
the
Norwegian
Broadcast
Corporation's main tool to manage
the file and metadata flow for drama
and documentary production. The
system works on a crossplatform v2 of
Qi where the database is based on the
EBUcore.
The QuineBox IoT is designed to be
modular. It is also open to third party
developers running their software on
the QuineBox. The first such software
will be the "Drylab Dailies" system.

Metadata is critical for automation
and conformable files. DekTec's DTU351 SDI capture solution decodes
the full HANC/VANC data, needed to
synchronise all data from the camera
with our dailies and edit proxies. The
support from and collaboration with
DekTec has been crucial in taking the
product from prototype to shipping.
Quine currently integrates with ARRI,
RED and SONY cameras.

Drylab.no has created a dailies
application. PureBlend's MovieSlate 8
app (for iOS), sends logging data to the
system, and is an excellent on-set tool
for Script and Sound Departments.
It integrates directly with the
wevideo.com API. We serve files to
their online editorial platform
used by a number of larger
publishing
houses
and
broadcasters.
Adobe has helped with the
integration with Premiere.
Some further AfterEffects
integrations are in the
pipeline.
Carlos
Acosta
of
solidcamera.com
has
designed
the
physical
box itself. The maker of
the
Scatterbox
makes
productions confident of hardware
quality and electrical solutions.
POPART and LADIO are two Horizon
2020 projects which the founders of
Quine have worked on.
The
Norwegian
Broadcast
Organisation & storylinestudios.no have
provided access to their productions
and equipment for prototyping and
testing of the solutions from news to
feature/drama productions.
