IBC Initiates Startup Forum
I

BC's inaugural Startup Forum looks
set to create some exciting new
partnerships.
The Startup Forum, held on Sunday,
September 17, is run in association
with Media Honeypot, organisers of the
eponymous international conference
that helps startups and growing
companies to identify new business
opportunities, growth strategies and
potential partnerships.
Over 75 startups and growing
businesses have been selected from 22
countries. Some of the startups are:
Oovvuu (Australia) - uses AI to
match broadcasters' videos and
publishers' articles on a global scale,
changing the way video is watched,
distributed and monetised;
Tiledmedia (Netherlands) - a VR
streaming company that enables highquality VR360 streaming at realistic
bitrates
LiveWeatherViews (Australia) -
developing a timelapse camera system
to help TV networks capture great
weather vision with full automation
over IP;
Choicely (Finland) - developing a

fan engagement platform to help
publishers and advertisers to engage
their audiences better using their
highly developed interactive formats;
SatoshiPay (Germany) - processes
nanopayment transactions usually
in the form of bitcoins. The company
is developing a two-way payment
platform that will allow content
providers to charge consumers a small
fee to read, watch or listen to content;
Giraffic (US / Israel / Hong Kong)
- a market leader in client-side
multimedia software acceleration,
helping device manufacturers and OTT
content providers overcome Internet
congestion challenges in order to
provide their customers with an
enjoyable, engaging user experience.

As well as networking opportunities,
the seminar programme features
key speakers including Joost Brakel,

NL; Jakob Wais, Head of New Platforms
& Video, Content Strategy, BILD; Sara
Lisa Vogl, Co-Founder, VR Base; and
Teresa Potocka, CEO and Founder
of The Potocki Communications
Company, who will share invaluable
insights.

van Oranje-Nassau, who leads
StartupDelta, the accelerator for the
startup ecosystem in the Netherlands,
and advises companies and the
European Commission on their digital
innovation strategies, will take part in
the Startup Corporate Collaboration
track.
In addition, five startups will be
selected to take part in a Pitching
Competition, pitching their business
ideas to industry experts and receiving
direct feedback from an expert panel.
The winning company will also receive
a cash prize.

IMF ProRes Workflows at IBC
A

t IBC, Marquise Technologies will
demonstrate the latest draft IMF
Application based on Apple ProRes,
and the variety of workflows built
around this soon standardised format.
Marquise Technologies, a member of
the EBU IMF-TV group, is leading the
work on a reference implementation
of ProRes in the IMF standard as part
of a partnership between the EBU, DPP
and NABA.
Although
SMPTE
standards
work is still in progress, Marquise
Technologies has produced a sample
implementation of the proposal which
is now available in MIST, the leading
mastering solution for DCP, IMF,
OTT and broadcast deliveries. This
implementation already includes the
draft specifications for IMF Broadcast
& Online Application Constraints
proposed by the EBU and DPP IMF
groups.

This IMF application simply exploits
existing ProRes processing and
archiving infrastructure, and adds
the benefits of IMF's flexibility and
versioning protocols.
IMF workflows can solve many
broadcaster challenges when cultural,
legal or technical issues must be
addressed with different versions on
different platforms. This has never
been more important with the genesis
of UHD and HDR television services.
IMF facilitates the exchange of
content between businesses no
matter if they are service providers,
international
distributors
or
broadcasters. It also makes it simple
for programme producers to make
and distribute all the international coproduction versions they need - as one
single interoperable format.

TV group points out that the IMF-TV
is charged with assessing the value
of IMF for EBU member broadcasters
and programme makers. "We always

join the group and share expertise
and experience especially when it
allows the EBU to develop Standards,
Recommendations and Specifications
that benefit the membership and
public service broadcasting."

are creating multiple versions of a
movie.

versions without re-encoding, offering
