I

t's genuinely amazing to see how far
LiveU has come since the first use of
our technology almost a decade ago,
not only as a company, but also how
much cellular bonding has changed the
industry.
Wireless cellular-based transmission
has become mainstream technology
for broadcasters worldwide. With
increased reliability and reduced
delay, portable transmission solutions
enable broadcasters to capture highquality video while being mobile,
responsive and shooting from different
locations.
In the past year, we have seen two
significant elections take place, one in
the US and one in the UK. Both cases
illustrate the importance of cellular
bonding in bringing these to the public,
be that broadcast or online. With the
U.S. Presidential Election, 1,800 LiveU
portable transmission packs were
in use on election day, with nearly
8,000 hours of streaming. The LiveU

Central management portal proved to
be mission-critical, supporting more
than 1,200 simultaneous streams and
managing 17 Terabytes of data.
In the UK, for the June, 2017 election
Sky News turned to LiveU to provide
all-embracing live coverage. Crucial
to the order was our ability to supply
a very high volume of portable
transmission units at short notice. On
the night, 149 concurrent live streams

were achieved. LiveU's UK partner
Garland Partners helped oversee this
complex project.

a Guinness World Record for Most
Concurrent Live Web Streams for an

Broadcast Award 2015. The technology

allowed us to bring results to the
nation as they happened and this
editorial advantage was made possible
by our partnership with LiveU. It
simply wouldn't have been achievable
using
traditional
newsgathering
methods and now we expanded our
live coverage for 2017 to make the
night even more alive for our viewers."
Once again, Sky News used an IP
set-up taking selected live feeds for
broadcast via its Network Operations
Centre. All live feeds were available
online via YouTube Live.
For the first time at the IBC show,
LiveU is demonstrating its awardwinning LU600 portable transmission
solution with the HEVC Pro card.

HEVC/H.265 hardware-based encoder
allows
professional
broadcasters
and content creators to benefit from
