Sachtler Debuts Entry Level
100mm Fluid Head

S

achtler, a Vitec Videocom brand,
has introduced the FSB 10 - a new
entry-level 100 mm fluid head.
The FSB 10 builds on the legacy of
the lightweight yet robust FSB Series
to offer a premium solution for on-thego camera operators working in news,
documentaries, wildlife, and more.
With a higher payload than the 75
mm FSB 8, the FSB 10 can handle up

to 12 kg (26.5 lbs) and allows users
to employ a wider range of system
configurations. The head comes in
two versions with different camera
platforms including the FSB 10 with
convenient sideload mechanism with
long sliding range for front/back
adjustment of the camera or FSB 10
T with Touch & Go plate for very fast
camera attachment.

Action sports photographer Tom Day,
one of the most renowned filmmakers
in the skiing world, famously snapped
a picture of his FSB 8 system frozen
while on location in the Alps, yet still
fully operational. Day, the principle
cinematographer for Warren Miller
Entertainment since 2000 and an avid
user of the Sachtler brand, was one
of the first to experience the FSB 10
and tested it in extreme, on-location
environments.
"If the FSB system can perform
in these extreme locations, then it
won't let you down on your day to
day shoot," says Day. "The 100 mm
version of the FSB 10 allows you to
level the tripod so much quicker than
a 75 mm. This allows you to set-up fast,
shoot on the fly or uneven ground, and
ultimately get your shot.
He added, "the stability allows me to
avoid any unnecessary movement and
get great shots. Ultimately, it comes
down to smooth, reliable movement

and Sachtler makes the best fluid
heads in the industry."
The FSB 10 boasts five positions + 0
for pan and tilt drag, giving operators
better flexibility and speed no matter
their project or location. It also offers
ten steps of counterbalance, compared
to other products in the same market
that only provide four.

perfectly supports today's digital
cinema-style cameras, including the

The FSB 10 has an integrated flat
base (e.g. for use on a slider) and an
ergonomic design that gives camera
operators easy access to operating
elements, while other features
include Sachtler's award-winning

of product consolidation and
increased global presence for OCTOPUS
Newsroom.
"At IBC2016 we are celebrating 17
years of success in the broadcast
market with 200 customers around the
world, and more than 50 MOS partners
interconnecting to our solution," says

representation into Asia where we
established a new office in Thailand
headed by APAC Director Miro Rusko.

Octopus NRCS brings together a

complete system packed with graphics,
teleprompting, traffic management
and delivery for broadcast television,
radio and the web.
The latest version of Octopus 8
features an advanced dashboard
GUI which brings together every
assignment, notification and update.
Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
become fully integrated into the
newsroom. Social media are then
treated with the same importance
as a traditional news feed or a
programme rundown. This reflects the
huge importance of social networks
to channel owners and audiences
worldwide.
Octopus 8 enables administrators
to assign users to create content for
social media. Tweets and Facebook
posts are treated like any other news
story with team managers able to
assign and share tasks, and to approve
posts before they go live. Journalists
can now follow Twitter trends and
track topics of particular interest to

them across the social network in
real-time. The research process is
now automated, giving teams instant
information and analyses trends over
time. Editors can tweet, reply, re-tweet
or favourite directly from Octopus as
well as manage relationships.
Octopus 8 interconnects with CMS
systems such as Wordpress or Joomla,
allowing scripts and articles to be
uploaded dynamically to web portals.
This web component allows TV news
editors to upload pages directly, saving
time and reducing the workload.
Another new feature is the ability to

publish social media posts directly
from the rundown.
The Octopus Mobile App offers
journalists full news production
capabilities on tablets and mobile
phones running Apple iOS or Google
Android. Reporters and editors
working remotely gain instant
access to all wires, rundowns and
assignments. They can also edit stories
within a rundown, preview prompter
text as well as create wires and reports
in the field. The new app supports
both Octopus 8 and the most recent
versions of Octopus 7.
