CDN Vital Role In
Sports Viewing
GER: Limelight Networks has noted
the increasing importance of CDN
for sports events as around 23%
of viewers turn to the Internet
(source Bitkom) to view content.
Major events, such as the UEFA
European Championship, generate
an enormous amount of traffic.
UEFA estimates that the 51 games
attracted a total of 1.9 billion
viewers.
According
to
the
German
broadcaster ZDF, over 100 million
people around the world followed
the opening match on June 10.

Engages Riedel
SIN / GER: Eleven Sports
Network Singapore, the exclusive
broadcaster for all UEFA Euro
2016 matches aired in Singapore,
used an STX-200 unit from Riedel
Communications to create an
interactive experience for fans
throughout its broadcasts of
football matches.
The STX-200 broadcast-grade
professional interfaces allowed
Eleven Sports Network to bring any
Skype user at any match venue into
the broadcast.
As a result, the broadcaster aired
user-generated content to further
engage local fans in the event.

SSL Winner At
FIFA World Congress
MEX: A core component in the
broadcast infrastructure for the
66th FIFA World Congress in
Mexico City was SSL Network I/O:
SDI.
On successfully providing 20 feeds,
Evident Productions Founder Peter
Blue said: "When I saw the SSL
box I thought 'wait a minute, this
fits the bill for everything'. It does
both the embedding and the deembedding for different protocols
simultaneously, and it's taking care
of the bridging from the audio side
of things."

Eutelsat Achieves WTA
Tier 4 Certification

he World Teleport Association
(WTA) has announced that Eutelsat
Communications has achieved Full Tier
4 Certification for its Paris-Rambouillet
teleport in France. Under the WTA's
recently launched Teleport Certification
Program, the Tier 4 is the highest
quality tier and the Paris-Rambouillet
Teleport is the first to achieve that level
of Certification.
The Certification program involves
a rigorous assessment of teleport
facilities, technology and operating
procedures, which together form the
foundation of quality of service.
The program begins when the
teleport operator completes a
+170-item questionnaire covering
business continuity, transmission
chains, satellite and terrestrial
connectivity, safety, security including
cybersecurity, and the network
operations
centre.

questions examine satellite and
terrestrial capacity management,
service continuity, physical and
cybersecurity processes, and change
management.
WTA analysed the company's
completed questionnaire and issued a
Provisional Certification in April.

has chosen to deploy Grass Valley
equipment for the coverage of the
COPA America to produce 4K coverage
of the soccer tournament.
Chad Snyder, Chief Operating Officer,
Lyon Video, said that a considerable
amount of planning had gone into the
deployment: "The beauty of the Grass
Valley equipment is that it is flexible,
so we are able to deliver whatever
format is needed."

consultant in May. The audit had
three goals: to validate the selfreported information; to note positive
and negative variances; and to offer
recommendations for improvements.
The resulting Tier 4 Certification of
Eutelsat's Paris-Rambouillet Teleport
will remain in effect for three years.
