Hallen Named
Vizrt CEO
NOR: Vizrt, a leading provider
of story production tools for the
digital media industry, has named
Michael Hallen as the new CEO,
effective August 1, 2016.
Most recently, Hallen was the
CEO of Qmatic Group, a Swedish
software and hardware company
in the Customer Experience
Management space.
Hallen said: "I'm looking forward
to working together with Vizrt's
world-class team to serve long
term customers while capturing
the new market opportunities
that are being created in this fast
changing industry."
Hallen, who will be based in the
Vizrt Global Headquarters
in Bergen, Norway, replaces
former Vizrt CEO, Martin
Burkhalter,
who
recently
retired.
Dr François Laborie, COO,
remains as Acting CEO.

Ulbrich To Lead
Deluxe VFX & VR
USA:
Deluxe
Entertainment
Services Group (Deluxe) has
announced that former Digital
Domain CEO Ed Ulbrich has joined
the company as President and
General Manager, Deluxe Visual
Effects.
Reporting to Deluxe CEO John
Wallace, Ulbrich will lead Deluxe's
Method Studios and Iloura, and
unify global VFX operations and
will also drive and grow Deluxe VR.
"Method Studios and Iloura are
doing extraordinary work in Los
Angeles, Vancouver, New York
and Australia," Ulbrich said, "And
there's an enormous opportunity
to unify the talented teams in
other disciplines across Deluxe
into a global VFX force..."
Ulbrich is a producer and
former long-time executive
of
Digital
Domain,
starting at the company's
inception.

RAL-TV, Capitol Broadcasting
Company's NBC affiliate in
Raleigh-Durham, is testing the nextgeneration ATSC 3.0 broadcast
television standard in 4K/UHD and
HD with High Dynamic Range (HDR)
and Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) using
Harmonic broadcast encoders powered
by the Harmonic PURE Compression
Engine.
WRAL-TV kicked off its new ATSC
3.0 TV station by airing the live noon
newscast while broadcasting a 4K UHD
documentary, Take Me Out to the Bulls
Game.

"Once ATSC 3.0 is
approved and commercial
TV stations begin the
migration process, they'll
be able to deliver better
pictures with 4K UHD and
1080p resolution along with
HDR and WCG," said Pete
Sockett, Director of Engineering and
Operations at WRAL-TV. "An important
part of this testing process is ensuring
the integrity of those images with the
best possible fidelity for our viewers,
and Harmonic's HEVC encoders have
proven to fulfil that need."

ATSC 3.0 is a new suite of digital
television standards that leverage
advanced modulation technology, IP
delivery as the transport mechanism
and HEVC compression to provide the
most robust television service possible.

HPA Tech Retreat To See
Leader Europe's Latest Gear

eader Europe will demonstrate its
LV5490 4K waveform monitor and
HDR suite of production and test tools
at the upcoming HPA Tech Retreat.
The exhibit will form a key element
of the Innovation Zone.
Organised by the Hollywood
Professional Association based
in Los Angeles, the event makes
its UK debut at the Heythrop
Park Resort in Enstone,
Oxfordshire, on July 13 and 14.
The Heythrop auditorium is
being transformed with a 26foot RealD Ultimate Screen,
Sony high brightness dual
3D projection, Dolby Atmos
sound, JBL loudspeakers plus
amplification from Harmon
Kardon and Bell Theatre
Services.

Highlights will include behind-thescenes and knowledge dives into The
Jungle Book, Finding Dory, Game of
Thrones, Ex Machina and Billy Lynne's
Long Halftime Walk. In the Innovation
Zone, leading companies will unveil

technologies in a curated environment.

three points in a scene.
CINEZONE uses chroma
substitution to indicate
