"It was incredibly important to
have a rig that was extremely flexible
because it was a live variety show,"
Ford explains. "On most reality
competition shows there is a lot more
predictability, but Best Time Ever had
a lot of unknown variables that you
had to adjust to on the fly. We had to
react to whatever was thrown at us.
Most of the acts were new, things were
shot from many different angles and
one time we had to reblock a couch
segment, featuring celebrities and
audience guests, during a commercial.
We had to have the tools up in the
air to react to a constantly evolving
situation."
Ford obtained about 40 Clay Paky
Mythos fixtures from PRG. "Mythos
are not a one-trick pony; they offer the
best of all worlds," he says. "We could
get Sharpy beam effects, big fat gobo

effects and a great fill light, all from
Mythos."
At
prolight+sound,
Elation
Professional previewed a number
of new products including fixtures
in three all-new product series (ZCL
Series with new Zooming Collimator
Lens system, DTW Series variable
white LED lights, and Fuze Series
LED wash fixtures with homogenised
colour, zoom optics and IP65 rating).
Other product launches included the
Platinum Seven, a high-power sevencolour wash luminaire; Sniper Pro, an
upgrade of Elation's award-winning
Sniper 2R that features three times
the power; and Protron 3K Colors, a
high-power LED colour strobe light
with RGBW LEDs and 40,000 lumens
of power. Also on display was a new
cyclorama wash luminaire, the TVL
CYC RGBW, a suitable floodlight
for TV, film, theatre and broadcast
applications.

modern facility in Phoenix
outfitted with over 100
LED lighting fixtures from
Elation Professional and
Acclaim Lighting.
Not only is the main
studio lit with Elation
and Acclaim lighting
but a radio control room, also used
for broadcast, as well as two insert
studios within the complex, are lit with
all Elation and Acclaim fixtures. The
Acclaim Quad Eyes are used to colour
ceiling tiles in the radio control room
and are also used to colour walls in the
insert studios. "I feel that both the cost
and the quality of the Elation fixtures
allow a designer to get what they need
to get the job done," says Show Design
Lighting Designer Justin Garrone.
"Elation has an extensive product line
that allowed me to spec fixtures for
specific purposes - fixtures that do
exactly what I wanted them to do."

hoton Beard headed to NAB to
introduce their latest product
range, Highlight LED.
Photon Beard Highlight Fluorescent
luminaire's have been in production
for more than 20 years and form the
backbone of studio lighting in many
TV studios around the
world.

The latest version of these is still
selling well and being installed in
new facilities today. These lights are
designed to throw light from the grid
typically 12 to 15 feet to the set or
talent. Lighting designers love their
consistent, predictable behaviour,
high efficiency, the wide range of
sizes available and the full range of
accessories that can be added. The
new range duplicates all these
attributes whilst increasing
efficiency
and
removing
the need for periodic lamp
replacement.
Although
several
other
companies
offered
products
similar to Highlight
Fluorescent,
none
have
replicated
this
functionality with LEDs.
This makes the new product

range unique in combining
what everyone loves with
the advantages of LEDs.
The new range includes
four models ranging
from 90W to 360W
and includes the same
range of accessories as
the existing products. Use of remote
phosphor technology means highly
accurate and consistent light quality
with high CRI and TLCI ratings.
Phosphor strips can be snapped in
and out to change from Tungsten to
Daylight balanced light when needed.
Cooling is entirely passive, so
the lights are completely silent
with no moving parts. Reliability is
exceptionally high and all models
carry a five year warranty including
output level and colour quality. Use
of modular design techniques across
the range means that users with large
numbers of lights can support any

model with only two spare modules
which can be replaced in the field if
needed.
A prototype version was previewed
to a few customers at IBC and, as a
result of this, initial orders are already
strong, even though NAB marked the
public introduction of the finished
product. Selected for use by a new
major internet channel for their new
London Studios and at CBNC Arabia
in Doha, Qatar, Highlight LED is hotly
anticipated.
The new range is already in
production and first deliveries will
begin shortly.
