Freefly Ships MoVI M15
F

reefly Systems, known for
pioneering next generation
handheld camera stabilisers, adds
the new MoVI M15 to its line-up,
which includes the smaller M10 and
M5 units.
Inspired by cameras like the
Sony F55 and ARRI Alexa M, the
M15 is compatible with most
popular professional camera/lens
combinations.
The M15 offers a maximum
payload of 15 pounds/7kg yet itself
weighs just 5.4 pounds/2.47 kg.
The M15 features a fully enclosed
camera cage (203mm long x 203mm
wide x197 high) for maximum rigidity
and shot stability, as well as fully
protected wiring with an adjustable
camera plate.
Other advancements include
simpliﬁed tool-less balancing and
a quick release top handle for
rapid adjustment. Similar to the
M5 and M10, the M15 may also
be conﬁgured in "Inverted Mode"
for a more comfortable eye-level
camera angle.
The MoVI's patent-pending
Majestic Mode allows for a single

operator to intuitively control the
pointing of the stabiliser by moving
the handles, without compromising
the stabilisation of the image.
The MoVI takes the operator's
movements and intelligently
converts them into stabilised pan
and tilt movements.
This allows for very low proﬁle
single operator setup and accurate
framing in tight situations. In Dual
Operator Mode, the MoVI stabiliser's
framing can be controlled by a
second operator, who controls
pan and tilt remotely using the
MoVI Controller.
Freefly Systems' proprietary
software and brushless direct
drive system allow the MoVI M15
to stabilise footage in demanding
shooting environments. The
stabiliser is 100% custom designed
in-house by the Freeﬂy engineering
and production teams at the
company's new headquarters in
Woodinville, Washington.

FIA Formula E Comes To FAL Systems For System Integration

AL Systems was commissioned
to build a complete flyaway
broadcast system by Hayﬁ sher
Pro du c tio n s ba s e d in the
West Midlands who have been
contracted by Aurora Media to
provide broadcast facilities for the
Formula E FIA fully-electric racing
series.
FAL's brief was quite challenging
in that not only were they to provide
all means for acquiring all the audio
and video for the transmission
but that they were to do so in
such a way as to have minimal
environmental impact.
All aspects of design and build
were handled by FAL's in house
team. The objective was to provide
a full 'truck-like' operational space
in a 2.5 metre x 2 metre intermodal
pod. Whilst keeping weight down
to a minimum was a dominant
factor that had to be balanced with

providing maximum ﬂexibility and
future prooﬁng. It was a challenge
that the FAL team was able to
successfully overcome with each
of the technical pods eventually
coming in at 50% below the max
weight allowed. Careful choice of
equipment has also enabled FAL to
keep the powering requirements as
low as possible using energy saving
devices wherever possible.
FAL has deployed 14 Grass
Valley HD Elite camera channels,
12 channels of Gigawave HD RF
cameras including on board feeds.
A Miranda hybrid HD router is
featured with full embedding and
de-embedding plus Miranda's
Kaleido integrated multi viewers.
An extensive Audio distribution
network was also created. The team
employed four Focusrite Rednet
6 MADI to DANTE providing 512
audio paths whilst two Yamaha
CL5 audio consoles
with Dante capability
deal with the mixing
duties and Yamaha
Rio stage boxes
deliver the analogue
audio interface. For
the comms systems
the team went for a
72 x 72 Clear-Com
tailback system.

was to deploy three Grass Valley
K2 Dyno servers providing six-in
two-out with ﬂex share. Miranda's
Densite modular range was
chosen for distribution and format
conversion. Grass Valley's Karrera
software based video production
centre provides the vision mixing
and was chosen because it uses
up to 50% less power than other
alternatives re-emphasising the
'green' ethos of the whole project.
FAL also built three storage pods
with bespoke stowage solutions
for all the equipment and cables

required. To maximise the space
available in production, this area has
been built as a ﬂyaway and will be
built into a portable building hired
for each race.
