Imagine Introduces Magellan
SDN Orchestrator System

magine Communications has
introduced the Magellan SDN
Orchestrator, a software control
system for managing hybrid
baseband and IP facilities.
An anchor component of Imagine
Communications' Software-Deﬁned
Networking (SDN) portfolio, the
Magellan SDN Orchestrator enables
seamless integration of baseband
and IP networks, protecting
customers' existing technology
investments while providing a clear
path to an open, interoperable and
IP-based future.
"Declaring a major milestone for
media companies, signalling that
we have overcome one of their most
critical challenges," said Charlie Vogt,
CEO of Imagine Communications.

"The decision to build a baseband
or all-IP facility is no longer a difﬁcult
one since the Magellan SDN
Orchestrator enables operational

and IP networks.

The Magellan SDN Orchestrator
utilises dynamic signal-flow

connections, managing signal
mappings, addressing, and
translations between legacy
protocols and IP.
Due to this tight alignment across
protocols and signals, the Magellan
SDN Orchestrator understands
the available resources, whether
legacy or IP, and turns the "sea of
equipment" into a set of deﬁned,
managed workﬂows that support
the concurrent coexistence of IP
streams, ﬁles, and baseband signals.
The Magellan SDN Orchestrator
instantiates pre-deﬁned workﬂows
through commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) IP switches.

Intervideo Selects ATG Danmon Support System

TG Danmon has completed a
ﬁle transcoding and standards
conversion system for Intervideo,
London's longest established
independent broadcast postproduction house.
"We do whatever is necessary
to repurpose client content and
deliver it either in the ﬁle or tape
domain," said Intervideo Technical
Director Gerry Wade.
"The perception of file-based
workﬂow is that it must be easier
than working with video tape. In
the old days, the only question you
had to ask was whether the client
wanted PAL or NTSC and what the
tape format was. Now we have
to handle a multitude of different
codecs, wrappers, metadata
requirements and audio bit-rates.
Every job becomes totally bespoke."
Wade said: "We decided to invest
