Lectrosonics Used For Les Fusilles
A

ward winning French sound
engineer Frederic de Ravignan
has been working on a movie
for French television called 'Les
Fusilles', directed by Phillippe
Triboit using wireless sound
systems by Lectrosonics.
Based on a story of heroism and
betrayal in the trenches of the First
World War, the production by Tidal
Films takes place in Gouzangrez,
deep in the Val- d'Oise. The set is
surrounded by ﬁelds of rapeseed,
wheat and sugar beet, land
decimated during the First World
War. This setting will have served
for ﬁve days of shooting, the other
scenes of the ﬁlm are shot in and
around Meriel and Luzarches, two
other towns in the Val d'Oise. The
film is due to be released this
winter on France 3.
Known for his work on 'Jappeloup'
and 'A few hours of Spring', de
Ravignana said: "I have been
using Lectrosonics equipment

for the last few years on all my ﬁlm
and television projects and for this
production it is superb as usual"
He was originally persuaded to
use Lectrosonics equipment by
French dealer Tapages e Nocturnes
who offered to let him try it.
He said: "The first thing
that impressed me about the
Lectrosonics gear was the
compatibility of the receivers to the
5212 transmitters from Sennheiser.
For me the audio quality of the HM
was way higher than the Sennheiser
SKP3000 so it is the perfect
combination."

De Ravignan wouldn't be without
Lectrosonics' HM digital hybrid transmitters

sound to record as they plan to
blow up a load of dynamite. "We
had to ask permission from the
prefecture of Val d'Oise to use the
dynamite," said Production Designer
Christophe Thiollier. "The explosion
should throw earth more than ten

meters in the air. We are using peat,
which is lighter than soil."
De Ravignan added that he now
cannot imagine working without the
Octopack Portable Multicoupler and
the HM Digital Hybrid transmitters
for the boom operator.

HKT Show Versatile DSNG Outside Broadcast Vehicle Concept

(HKT) showed a new concept
in ve r s atile, c ost- ef fe c tive
OB production facilities at
BroadcastAsia2014.
Designed and built at the
company's state-of-the-art
engineering facility in Istanbul, Turkey,
the vehicle offers a ﬂexible mobile
digital production environment
complete with advanced DSNG
capabilities.
Based around a Mercedes Sprinter
516 CDI truck, the standard vehicle
goes into HKT's workshops where
it undergoes a transformation into
a mobile facility capable of meeting

the full live production requirements
of sporting, cultural, music and
current affairs events.
Speaking
ahead
of
BroadcastAsia2014 Cemal Yilmaz,
General Manager at Hitachi Kokusai
Electric Turkey, said: "Our expert
team of design engineers have
brought together the most advanced
broadcast technology from many
vendors in order to create a unique
mobile production proposition
in terms of size, versatility and
sophistication.
"This month our company celebrates
its first birthday and already
we are generating interest from
broadcasters

interested in
our production
solutions,
especially this
extraordinary

vehicle."

standard with a
40,000 BTU air
conditioning
system, the
vehicle copes
HKT say that the vehicle meets the live production
easily with
requirements for various environments

the harsh weather conditions
experienced frequently throughout
the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Not
only is the equipment cooled but
the crew is looked after too - each
vehicle comes with fridge and coffee
makers ﬁtted as standard.
Inside the compactly designed
production facility there are six
operator positions and 139 RU of
equipment racking. The HD-ready
production system supports eight
cameras with a 2-ME, 24-input
multi-format live switcher and
34x34 3G/HD/SD router. Thanks to
the vehicle's ultra ﬂexible routing
and switching environment it is
child's play to interchange the slomo, graphics and server positions in
order to suit any kind of production.
In addition, two 46-inch monitors
are equipped with multiviewer
systems so all picture sourcing,
monitoring and referencing can be
performed on-board the vehicle.
Motorised drums and a sliding
mechanism at the back of the vehicle
make sure that cable laying and
rewind are simple operations which
take the minimum time necessary.
A neat feature of the HKT mobile
production unit is its advanced
DSNG capabilities, which are

facilitated by a PALS PKM-120 Ku
Band motorised antenna located on
the vehicle's roof.
In addition, a 400W XICOM high
power ampliﬁer (HPA) is installed
within the roof-mounted Antenna
Pod in order to avoid extra heat
generation in the van. Using PALS'
smart operating system, the antenna
can be controlled by any smart
phone or Wi-Fi tablet.
