Latest Developments In Broadcast Lighting
Recently introduced broadcast lighting equipment continues to highlight the ongoing
trend towards more energy efficient luminaires...

T

his overview shows a continuing
shift from hot filaments to
much more energy efﬁcient LED
technology.
LEDs have obvious advantages for
cameramen working from batteries
when on location. The lower heat
output from LEDs is also preferred
by the majority of studio performers.
LEDs are also much more robust
to transport than tungsten or
ﬂuorescent lights.

ADB's EuroDim Twin Tech highdensity dimmer rack

ADB's EuroDim Twin Tech is a
high-density dimmer rack with plugin
dimmer modules for professional
theatre and television installations.

It allows a free mix of sine-wave
and thyristor technologies. The
company's DimSwitch is a dual
capability thyristor module which
can act either as a switch for
normally non-dimmable loads
such as HMI ballasts or as a normal
dimmer for tungsten lamps.
ARRI's new L5 LED Fresnel is
approximately 45% brighter than
a 300 watt tungsten Fresnel, but
only consumes 115 watts. It is
half the weight and size of the
existing L7 and retains the latter's
features which include tuneability
from 2,800 to 10,000 kelvin, green/
magenta correction, hue selection,
saturation control and DMX remote
control. New features available on

the L5 include a PowerCON power
connector and a low-voltage DC
input. The L5 comes in three
versions: the L5-C (colour), L5TT (tungsten tuneable) and L5-DT
(daylight tuneable). The L5-TT and
L5-DT are 25% brighter than the
L5-C and still offer a limited CCT
tuning range.
Blueshape V-mount batteries
have been re-designed to withstand
50 drops from a height of six feet.
Two P-taps provide regulated
power for lighting accessories. The
batteries can be used with cameras
such as RED and the ARRI Alexa.
Canara Lighting has been in
the business of stage and studio
lighting system for over 40 years.
The company has a manufacturing
facility located at Mangalore, India.
Its product range includes LED
Fresnels, LED panels, LED ENG
kits, halogen and HMI lighting
fixtures, motorised and fixed
rigging/grid, light bars, dimmers,
consoles, chroma and curtains.
Recent new additions are 100 to
400 watt LED Fresnels, 90 watt LED
panels and 60 watt LED ENG lights,
available with tungsten or daylight

colour temperature.
Chimera's Lightbank diffusers are
designed for use with LED, plasma
and remote phosphor lights. LED
Lightbanks use a new lens screen
that blend the LED array into a single
light source. Barn Door Style LED
Lightbanks are available for Ikan ID
36, ID 500 and ID 1000 lights. Also
available is the 1640 for the Rotolight
ANOVA series of LED lights.

The Inspire Mini LED house light
from Chroma-Q offers mixed colours

Chroma-Q's Inspire Mini LED
house light has a 65 degree beam
angle and provides a choice of
whites, pastels and saturates from
a single ﬁxture. Controllable from
any DMX-supported lighting console,
it is designed to provide a selection
of mixed colours and 'true' whites
with no colour separation shadows.
Cineo Lighting's 500 watt
TruColor HS soft light uses remote
phosphor technology and is claimed
to exceed the output of a traditional
2 kilowatt incandescent soft light.
Several units can be plugged into
a single 15 amp circuit. Rather
than using traditional diffusion
to soften the light source, light is
emitted from the panels at the front
of the ﬁxture and radiates equally
over a 160 degree radius. Cineo
