Fairlight EVO.Live First At CatholicTV Network

atholicTV Network in the USA
has become the ﬁrst customer
for Fairlight's new EVO.Live audio
mixing system, which won a Best of
Show award when it was launched
at NAB 2014.
CatholicTV is using EVO.Live for
live and pre-recorded HD broadcast
productions at its facility near Boston,
Massachusetts. The console's
unique ability to switch between live
and post modes means that staff
engineers can also use the desk for
editing when it isn't needed for on-air
applications.
As standard, EVO.Live
incorporates dual-operator
functionality, enabling two engineers
to independently access separate
fader sets, channels and monitor
controls. The system delivered to

second, smaller surface positioned
in the video control room.

Operators can instantly reconﬁgure
EVO.Live as a post-production
system to play back HD video and
edit audio recorded in the Fairlight
system during live production.

Fairlight's FPGA-based Crystal
Core engine ensures high channel
and bus counts, low latency and
exceptional audio quality. The system
supports six-band EQ and dynamics
processing on every channel, main,
sub and aux bus. Flexible mixminus buses and outputs, advanced
talkback, extensive metering and
integrated 128-track audio and video
recording complete the package.
EVO.Live additionally provides
advanced surround sound mixing
capabilities, off-line preparation via
laptop, a built-in sound effects cart
machine and control extensions to
lighting systems, third-party DAWs
and sound library databases.

Fairlight's integrated control
surface includes unique Picture
Keys that self-label instantly for
each task performed, displaying
the right commands and functions
at the right time enabling faster and
better control of your event. The
Picture Keys are customised through
Fairlight's iCan (Integrated Control

Across Network) software which
enables the operator to simply drag
and drop functions from a list onto
the Fairlight control surface to design
customised layouts.
The console is available in different
chassis sizes, as well as surfacemounted and table-top conﬁgurations,
from 12 to 60 faders.

he stunning rate of progress and
innovation in audio technology
has enabled increased levels of
creativity, which has resulted in a big
increase in the complexity of TV and
ﬁlm post, and broadcast workﬂows.
The extra ﬂexibility and choice

that producers and directors are
now afforded means that session
sizes, track counts and number of
deliverables are growing, and are
harder to manage. At the same time
deadlines and budgets are becoming
tighter. The challenges facing
broadcasters

also
mounted, as
legislation has
increased for
broadcast levels.

When Avid released Pro Tools 11
and then quickly followed it up with
the launch of the Avid S6 modular,
customisable EUCON control
surface, it was to address a pressing
need from audio professionals for
greater performance to support the
most sophisticated projects and
scalability to accommodate a variety
of workflows.
The development of the S6 as a
modular solution that easily scales
to meet current and future needs
helps to deliver on a key element of
the Avid Everywhere vision which
connects creative professionals more
powerfully and proﬁtably. The idea
was to design a dream system that
covered a wide variety of physical
sizes and price points, with a high
build quality.
It was created to meet a demand
from mixers for a high-density,
ergonomic, expandable system
with easily conﬁgurable workﬂows.
Things like reach, tactile interaction
and sharp visual feedback were all
taken into account in the design, as

they are paramount to the mixer,
and should not obstruct or interfere
with the sound.
Rich visual feedback such as
professional metering, EQ curves,
panning feedback, routing and
scrolling waveforms to cue the
mixer was also addressed. In order
to provide ﬂexibility, the console
is scalable, both horizontally for
number of channels and vertically
for channel features and controls,
to adapt to every stage of a user's
business. Modules can be added or
removed to match current workﬂow
requirements.
For broadcasters and media
companies, facility-wide integration
of solutions such as mixing consoles,
DAW's, video editing systems and
storage is key if they are to adapt
workﬂows to address the changing
media landscape.
This forms part of the thinking
behind Avid Everywhere, our
