4K Coverage Of
FIFA World Cup
A collaboration between Sony and FIFA will see
4K footage included in the Official FIFA 2014 Film
and coverage of three complete matches...

ony and FIFA (Fédération
Internationale de Football
Association) will collaborate on
a range of 4K initiatives at the
2014 FIFA World Cup, including
production of the Ofﬁcial 2014 FIFA
World Cup Film in 4K Ultra HD, and
produce three full matches in 4K to
further promote the growth of 4K
content. World football's ﬂagship
event will be held in Brazil from 12
June to 13 July.
Sony, an ofﬁcial FIFA Partner, offers
a wide array of 4K products ranging
from broadcast and professional
solutions, to 4K-compatible consumer
products such as TVs, home theatre
projectors and video cameras, and
provides unique and comprehensive
4K live production solutions, from
shooting and production to viewing.
Through the following joint
initiatives, Sony and FIFA aim to
further accelerate the expansion of
the 4K viewing experience:
Sony and FIFA will jointly produce
the Ofﬁcial 2014 FIFA World Cup
Film in 4K ("Ofﬁcial 4K Film"). The
ﬁlm will include a selection of games,
including the ﬁnal. The Ofﬁcial 4K Film
is due to be distributed online by FIFA
via 4K content distribution services
after the 2014 FIFA World Cup;
FIFA will leverage Sony's
professional 4K equipment within

its 4K live production workflow
processes at the 2014 FIFA World Cup
to ﬁlm one match from the round of 16
(to be held on June 28), one quarterﬁnal (on July 4), and the ﬁnal (on July
13) at the Estadio do Maracanã) in Rio
de Janeiro. Sony will be providing
extensive technical support to FIFA,
including the development of a 4K live
production system. Sony's products
and solutions including its CineAlta
4K live camera "PMW-F55", 4K multiport AV storage unit "PWS-4400",
4K LCD monitor "PVM-X300", and
4K multi-format switcher "MVS7000X"(subject to change) will be
used to ﬁlm the 2014 FIFA World
Cup. The ﬁlmed 4K footage will be
compiled into the Ofﬁcial 4K Film;

4K shooting trials, to capture each
unforgettable moment, as well as the
speed, power and excitement of the
ﬁrst-class football action as it unfolds
on the pitch.
4K technology will enable the
dynamism of the goals, the subtle
expressions on the player's faces, and
the passion of the fans in the stadium
to be captured with unprecedented
vividness, as if the viewer were there
in the stadium itself.
Sony and FIFA will accelerate their
combined efforts in 4K to deliver the
action and emotions of the 2014 FIFA
World Cup to even more people
around the globe.

With this update for Riedel's

media network, users realise added
beneﬁts, including full video router

f u n c t i o n a l i t y,
seamless
interoperability with Studer
consoles, EMBER+ implementation,
and extended integration of the
ProBel protocol.
"MediorNet 2.0 gives MediorNet
users a ﬂexible, easy-to-operate
alternative to conventional video

routing capabilities right into

firmware update enables

operations costs while
reducing the volume

video router functionality with
switching delays of less than 40
milliseconds, as well as high-speed
rerouting that allows as many as
1,000 connections to be rerouted
in less than a second.
Simple drag-and-drop routing
of multiple connections speeds
configurations, and users now
have the option to delete multiple
selected connections at once. The
ﬁrmware update also supports more
than 65,000 ProBel crosspoints.
MediorNet 2.0 introduces Studer
A-Link compatibility, which enables
the MediorNet Modular frame to act
as a decentralised audio router with
a matrix size larger than 25,000 sq
and fully redundant interfaces.
At the same time, MediorNet fully
supports EMBER+ for integration
with other common control
systems, such as VSM and KSC
Commander. Because the update

permits access to all MediorNet
parameters and allows users to edit
I/O settings and control all routing
functions, users retain control over
conﬁguration options.
Additional features that come
with MediorNet 2.0 include a
timecode display that can be
conﬁgured to the user's preferred
size and position, an LTC input, and
sample rate conversion on both
optical MADI ports of MediorNet
Compact systems.
