Carbonite Gets
3G And UHDTV

FOR-A Switches
ITV's New 'Street'
W

ith the move of IT V's
Coronation Street production
to a new home at MediaCityUK, the
accompanying technical facilities
included a new FOR-A MFR-5000
as the master routing switcher.
Although mostly furnished with
new equipment, the new installation
has retained the FOR-A vision
mixers from the previous facility.
The MFR-5000 master routing
switcher, conﬁgured at Coronation
Street with 96 inputs and 128
outputs, is responsible for all HDSDI
video routing around the building.
There is redundancy for the CPU and

power supply and the router
also includes GPI support.
Control is available from
many positions via the three
MFR-39RU mnemonic panels and
21 MFR-40RU panels.
Support for the FOR-A equipment
includes three MV-42HS quad-split
multiviewers for in-vision audio
conﬁdence monitoring, and two FA9500 multipurpose signal processors
used for the colour correction of onset, in-shot TV screens.

Street. "The reliability of any
item is important but is vital for
such core items."
Two of FOR-A's HVS-300HS
vision mixers for camera switching
and EDL creation at the previous
Coronation Street set have been
re-installed.

Lowel Expands Pro LED Lighting Range

he Lowel range has gained
two additions: the Lowel Prime
Location LED and the Lowel PRO
Power LED.
Unveiled at NAB 2014, the new
Lowel Prime Location LED is
designed for lighting in the real world.
With high output spread over a wide
50-degree beam angle, this 1x1 LED
panel features a rugged all-metal
housing and an IP-65 rating.

Its AC connections use
Powercon AC bridging between
fixtures to reduce the need for
multiple AC outlets.
Prime Location LEDs also come
with your choice of V-lock or
Anton Bauer Gold Mount battery
plates for DC operation. The lights
are available in hi-CRI Daylight,
Tungsten or Bi-Colour models.
Light control accessories and kit
combinations are available.
The Lowel PRO Power LED
is a compact, focusing light
available in hi-CRI Tungsten
or Daylight colour and a
Fresnel 8:1 focus range.
The light is dimmable
without colour shift, works
with either AC power or its
proprietary DC accessory
battery system.
It can be used with a
shoulder strap for handheld
lighting and has a selection
of accessory light control and
mounting options.

USA: Ross Video announced free
software upgrades that enable
Carbonite to be switched to 3G
(1080P 50 or 60) and UHDTV (4K).
The software upgrade is free to
download and no new hardware
is required to switch to 3G.
In 3G mode, the number of DVEs
is reduced to four from eight, and
the maximum number of MultiViewer
windows is reduced to 10 from 16.
3G signals contain twice the data
of standard HD and, as a result,
some resource reduction occurs.

USA: CueScript, a new provider
of creative prompting solutions
with feature-rich designs for
broadcast productions, unveiled
its first product, the CSM17
17" LED High Brightness HDSDI Prompter Monitor at NAB.
The new prompter brings
together a wealth of innovative
features for demanding production
applications. Its built-in LED
cue lights feature adjustable
brightness and 180-degree viewing.
The monitor is expected to be
available in Q2, this year.

MAXON Partners
On Houdini Plug-In

Lowel PRO Power LED

GER: MAXON is partnering with
Side Effects Software to develop
a plug-in which gives CINEMA 4D
users access to the Houdini Engine.
The Houdini Engine is designed
to allow Houdini's procedural
technology to work inside other
digital content creation applications.
This bridge between the two
applications offers CINEMA 4D
artists direct access to Houdini
Digital Assets with an integrated
procedural workﬂow that does not
require baked-out data.
