PAG's Paglight is a three-in-one
on-camera interview light. Operating
from 12 to 14.8 volt direct current,
it can be fitted with a LED head
delivering 900 lux of illumination at
two metres and consumes 11 watts.
The light can be focused from spot
to flood. The lamp can be replaced
with HMI or halogen modules.
Photon Beard's Square One
is a rectangular 64 watt soft light
incorporating eight 12 inch x 5/8
inch diameter fluorescent tubes. It
can be operated from a detachable
power supply or optional V mount
battery pack which will accept two
V mount batteries. The Square One
is dimmable via rotary control and
comes with a set of Osram tubes
balanced to tungsten or daylight
colour temperature. The detachable

stirrup has a 16 millimetre socket
for mounting in reduced space
locations such as car interiors.
Also included are removable barn
doors which can be used to house
honeycomb grids, diffusions panels
and colour filter gel.
At IBC 2013, Rotolight introduced
the Anova EcoFlood Version 2 bicolour LED and the Anova Solo
single colour floodlight. These are
available in daylight or tungsten
colour temperature with a 110
degree beam angle soft output or
50 degree beam. Intensity is just
under 6,000 lux at 90 centimetres.
Each Anova is flicker free and
allows DMX or wireless control via
the Rotolight Magic Eye HD app for
iPhone or iPad.

Zylight's F8 LED Fresnel is the next
generation of mobile lights

Zylight's F8 LED Fresnel in
sub-zero weather

Fresnel fixture. This provides a
strong directional beam of adjustable
light with even coverage at 3,200 or
5,600 kelvin and allows flicker-free
dimming without colour shift.
Zylight's F8 LED Fresnel is
ruggedised for mobile use. It has a
colour rendering index of 97+ and
features shadow beam shaping
through barn doors, continuous
focusing and a smooth light field.
Additional features include wireless
and DMX control plus a waterresistant IP54 rating. Available
with 3,200 or 5,600 kelvin colour
temperature, the Zylight F8 can be
powered from a mains adapter or a
standard 14.4 volt camera battery.
Local control such as dimming and
focus are provided on the rear of

the lamp head. The yoke mount
allows easy panning and tilting for
quick focusing.

Looking Ahead

The one great weakness of LED
lights has until recently been their
relatively low light output.
That is becoming less of an issue
with every passing year. In the area
of home lighting, latest-generation
LED products from companies
such as Philips have reached the
point where they can deliver the
brightness and optical warmth
expected from traditional tungsten
bulbs without wasting energy
cooking the adjacent wall or ceiling.
LED lighting has a great future in
practically every realm of life and
that future is with us now.

Sony's F65 Shoots True 4K Horror 'The Last Showing'
T

he upcoming Philm Company
release 'The Last Showing' is
the latest in a series of feature films
to be shot in true-4K using Sony's
F65 CineAlta digital production
camera.
Starring Robert Englund, Keith
Allen, Finn Jones, and Emily
Berrington, and directed by London
Independent Film Festival Prize
winning director Phil Hawkins,
the film is scheduled for a UK
release this year.
Commenting on his experiences
shooting with the F65, Director of
Photography Ed Moore said: "For
me the F65 produces the most
stunning image of any of the current
generation of digital cinematography
cameras. The Last Showing's setting
and themes are literally cinematic in
nature, and the director and I were
keen from the start to reflect this
in the look and feel of the images
we achieved - I wanted the house
lighting in the cinema in particular to
play a significant part in illuminating
each shot. The huge latitude of the
F65 meant that we were able to
work with the low levels of light
these produced."
"Rich colour was another key

benefit of using the F65," explained
Moore. "Many digital cameras
don't respond well to the LED and
theatrical lighting we used, but the
F65's impressive colour gamut
coped incredibly well, even with
extremely saturated colours."
The Last Showing was shot on
location in a working multiplex near
Liverpool using two F65 cameras
and Cooke 5/i lenses.
The F65s' workflow proved easily
manageable, with Sony's SR-D1
SRMemory card reader being an
instrumental part of the process,
making it possible to download high
data volumes quickly.
Moore said: "Any concerns we
had about the data workflow proved
unfounded - our DIT easily kept on
top of the two hours footage or
more that we produced each day,
and we had excellent quality dailies
produced at the same time."
"In my opinion, the F65 is one of the
leading cinematographic cameras,
providing a transformative creative
tool for feature films. Having used
it on more than one occasion, Ed's
been able to put it through its paces
and always achieves outstanding
results," said Jon Howarth,

for the F65 since we took delivery
of our two units, and customers
have been blown away by the
exceptional quality of the images
that the camera captures."

Set in a cinema, the film tells
the story of a young couple who
are manipulated by a deranged
projectionist into becoming unwilling
actors in a film being captured by
CCTV cameras.
The film was fully funded by equity
investors through the Enterprise
Investment Scheme.
