NuMedia’s IPM-16 In-picture audio and video meter
wo new mini-converter products
have been added to the
Chromatec audio metering range.
The IPM-16 is ideal for monitoring
audio and video presence in
transmission or production
environments and to check that
audio is within pre-determined limits
and in phase.
The IPM-16 supports the display
of embedded audio as vertical bar
graphs superimposed on throughgoing video and also provides an
effective in-picture alarm system for
both audio and video errors.
Up to four groups (16 channels) of
embedded audio may be displayed
simultaneously, superimposed in
four groups on the video. Each audio
group can be assigned a different
meter type selectable from – DIN
PPM, BBC PPM, Nordic PPM, VU,
Extended VU, ARD+9 and AES/EBU.
The user has access to an
extensive range of controls to
customise each meter type. Audio
level metering controls include
on-screen position and size,
level transition points, peak hold
parameters and background and
Audio alarms include embedded
audio/AES audio carrier loss, audio
loss (low-level), audio over level and
audio phase error. All alarms can be
turned on/off for individual channels
(or pairs where applicable).
Up to four phase-correlation
bars can be assigned with each
bar representing a pair of matching
channels. In addition, two EBU R128
compliant loudness meters may be
displayed, with each one allowing
up to five channels
to contribute to the
Two channels of
may be derived
from any input,
as well as up
to eight audio
embedded in the HDMI output.
Video alarms include video sync

Unique to the IPM-16,
measurements of SDI physical
parameters include a horizontal bar
graph showing SDI eye-width and a
cable length indicator with bar graph
and digital readout.
The IPM-16-EXT has the same
features as the IPM-16 but allows
an additional 16 channels of external
audio to be metered. The metered
audio can be selected from any
combination of embedded, analogue
or digital AES. Switches on the top
of the unit allow the user to select
the correct termination impedances
for single-ended or balanced inputs.
The products are configured via
USB connection and simple PC
control application, which can also
be used to upload firmware updates
and to configure alarms.
Each unit can store up to 16
user configurations, which can be
recalled at any time by adjusting the
hex switch setting located at the
front of each unit. Status information
is displayed on a scrolling blue
OLED display located at the front
of each unit.
An optional carry case is available
to protect units, accessories, cables
and power supplies. Accessories
include all audio cable assemblies;
external power supply and hard
plastic carry case.
