Dan Technologies Expands Into Spanish
Market With Datos Media Technologies

he Dan Technologies mindset is
best deﬁned by a quote which
sounds like 21st century spin but
was actually coined by the Greek
polymath Aristotle 2,400 years ago:
“The whole is greater than the sum
of its parts.” Component parts of
Dan Technologies in this context
are a team of highly experienced
people with a shared passion for
electronics and its applications
across the entire business of
broadcasting, multimedia and
digital networking.
Dan Technologies has developed
over the past 32 years into
one of the world’s most active
and innovative specialists in
audio, video and transmission
equipment, systems and services.
Established in Copenhagen, the
group gradually expanded from
its Danish roots to serve the
broadcasters and multimedia

UK-based systems integrator ATG
Broadcast became a member of the
Danmon Systems division in 2006,
followed in 2008 by the partial and
later full acquisition of the German
satcom equipment manufacturer
and systems integration company
Hiltron Communications. In 2011,
the group extended its presence
into the United Arab Emirates with
the opening of ATG Broadcast
Middle East in Dubai Media City.
A year later, the Danmon Asia
Ltd was established with ofﬁces
in Hanoi. Danmon Asia built on
experience gained in the Vietnamese
market by the group’s Danmon
Systems division.
At IBC2013, we announced
the latest addition to the Dan
Technologies group with the
formation of Datos Media
Technologies S.A., a newly
constituted company based at
Ciudad de la Imagen in Madrid.

with technology, integration
and expertise in workflow
implementation.

is managed by Tomas Nielsen
(Managing Director) and David
Martínez (Operations Manager).
Both have over 20 years of
experience in the Spanish
broadcast production and postproduction market, including close
involvement in the transition from
tape-based to ﬁle-based audio
visual production.
Spanish broadcasters and facility
managers have similar needs to their
fellow professionals throughout the
world. They are in tune with the same
global ﬂow of technology-related
information as their equivalents in
any other country and attend local
shows such as Broadcast Madrid
as well as international conventions
like NAB and IBC. They are happy to
source from best-of-breed hardware,
ﬁrmware and software suppliers but
quite rightly want fast local support
in their own language after a sale
has been completed and a product
or system installed.

reinforced its distribution network
in Spain by appointing Datos Media
as an Avid Elite Reseller.

companies and post-production

support the entire Avid Technology
video portfolio, including video and
audio editors, newsroom computer
systems, media asset management
and networked data storage.
MOG has also appointed Datos
Media as a reseller with access
to supply and support the entire
MOG portfolio. These include
centralised ingest solutions and
MXF development tools. This will
give Datos Media great ﬂexibility to
improve out customers’ workﬂows
based on the most suitable products
for their needs.

Fast-Moving Industry
Datos Media shares a vision
common to the Dan Technologies
group as a whole that the broadcast
and multimedia business never
has, and never will, stand still. Our

colleague Peter Thomsen, Project
Director of Danmon Systems Group,
encapsulated this very succinctly
in a recent presentation:
“The viewing habits of broadcast
television audiences are changing
rapidly. Parents who are reluctant
to give their children separate
access to a television receiver now
ﬁnd this door has been opened via
the computer that is supposed to
be helping with their homework.
One national broadcaster recently
commented that it had experienced
a 25% drop in demand for traditional
television within the last year
among viewers below the age of
25, who apparently have moved to
other platforms.
“For the television industry as a
whole, competition from online
services is healthy because it
increases the total number of
people viewing programmes even
if there is a fragmentation between
nominally live transmission and
catch-up streaming.
“The increasing speed of change
in technology, the need to meet
competition, protect marketshare or move fast to harvest new
opportunities all call for external
expertise and resources.”
