An important point here is the
distinction between line-of-site and
non-line-of-site. In all systems, the
formally declared range is measured
in clear line-of-site, as if there are
no obstacles between the camera
and the receiver at the OB-van or
broadcast station. The reason for
measurement in clear line of site is
that experiments and results can
be repeated anywhere anytime. The
actual range, however, is determined
by the number of obstacles in the
way between the transmitter and
receiver and their compound
material. Range variance is
also affected by antenna
location and position.
A small reminder at this
point: all available systems,
by all vendors, obey…
physical rules! Radio waves
are blocked by metals, walls,
buildings and so on. So just
like in your mobile phone, where
a movement of even one meter may
allow for a better cellular reception,
microwave camera link transmission
range is affected by signal blocking.

Signal blocking by physical
objects like walls is different from
interference caused by other users
on your speciﬁc frequency or by
multiple users on the same frequency
(congestion). While physics cannot
be changed, interference may
be solved by hopping to another
frequency, free from interference and

Streaming Support

control systems, has announced
a major software update to the
ClearVIEW HD-USB PTZ camera.
In addition to the current USB
streaming, the new 2.0 version
allows for IP HD video streaming
and remote PTZ camera control
through the Ethernet network
interface. Integrators now have the
design ﬂexibility to choose between
USB or Network streaming – all
in one device.
Streaming Protocols supported
are Real Time Streaming
Protocol
(RTSP) and
HTTP Live
Streaming
( H L S ) .

The new release includes IP
Streaming and IP PTZ Camera Control

Encoding for video will be H.264
(Main Proﬁle) and the audio encoding
will be AAC. Streaming adaptive
network bandwidth allocation is
supported with Adaptive Bitrate
technology by detecting a user’s
bandwidth and CPU capacity in
real-time and adjusting the quality
of a video stream accordingly. This
results in a smoother more lifelike motion streaming experience.
Supported resolutions include
both SD and HD high-deﬁnition
resolutions up to 1080p.

integrators for a number of years
to build IP video streaming into our
camera systems,” explained CEO
of Vaddio, Rob Sheeley. “We also
knew that if we were to give them
streaming, we would also have to
give them remote IP PTZ camera
control as well. Now they can
control the camera from wherever
they are watching the stream. This
latest free software update to the
ClearVIEW USB PTZ camera does
all this and more.”
