clip-based channels. Stingray caters
for multiple languages, each system
being fully Unicode compliant; it
features multi-format playback
capability and allows multi-channel
control from each operator position,
with visibility of multiple timelines for
efﬁcient channel management. The
system is currently available in two
standard conﬁgurations, designed
for playout, or ingest applications.
Pilat Media and UK-based
SimpleStream have established a
new joint venture company, OTTILUS.
The venture’s ﬁrst product, OTTILUS
OTT, is an asset management
system supporting online services
such as live simulcast, catch-up
and video on demand. PC, mobile,
tablet, game console and Smart TV
consumer platforms are supported.
OTT scales from single service to
multi-territory, multi-lingual and
multi-service deployments.
Pixel Power will demonstrate the
latest version of its ChannelMaster
channel playout system.
ChannelMaster integrates storage,
graphics, DVE, audio, subtitling,
master control, live feed and longform video playout within a single
dedicated hardware platform. It
integrates with any automation and
MAM system or can be controlled
with Pixel Power Gallium. New
features for NAB 2013 include
support for built-in open subtitling
from standard ﬁle formats. Aspect
ratio conversion at the point of
playout allows broadcasters to
apply horizontal and vertical resizing
or pillar boxes to play 4:3 content
on 16:9 channels, or to format HD
content for playout on SD channels.
It is now also possible to mix HD and
SD content on a channel, converting
material at playout as needed. FPGAbased ﬁlter processing in Pixel Power
graphics cards is claimed to provide
a visually distinct advantage over
standard IT-style systems.
PlayBox
Te c h n o l o g y ’s
ScheduleBox is a web-based client/
server module for creating and
managing schedules. Operating
within a web browser, it handles

template-based TV broadcast
planning, offering straightforward
management of single, or multiple,
TV channels. Programme templates
present per day, week or month
views and schedule management
by date per TV channel, to provide
monitoring and control of all
activities, from schedule creation
to publishing for broadcast. Any
number of users can access and
collaborate, based on user rights,
and there is full compatibility of
programme schedules with the
existing playlist format as used in
AirBox playout servers and ListBox
ofﬂine schedule creation.
Provys ‘Media Management’ is
a part of the company’s TVofﬁce,
which offers tools to provide
workflow-oriented management
and back-ofﬁce support software.
It can support tape and digital media
workﬂows, all media metadata and
functions being integrated with
the channel management and
production management modules
of TVofﬁce. Generic interfaces to
digital asset management systems
are included in order to track media
creation and media copies, and to
support media identiﬁcation. Tapebased workﬂow for multi-site tape
libraries is also supported.
Snell is adding new features to
its ICE channel-in-a-box system by
allowing up to four channels of HD
per unit depending on the channel
conﬁguration. ICE also now includes

3D and 2D graphics, character
generation with timeline editing
control, and the ability to populate
ﬁelds from Morpheus automation
schedule events or external data
sources. Complementing ICE’s HD
and SD simulcast capabilities is the
addition of a delay service, which
provides the ability to record the
output of a channel for delayed
playout services.
The company will also introduce
Momentum, an automated media
asset management and resource
planning system which allows users
to edit and control their workﬂows
on demand. Momentum can deploy
on standalone hardware, on virtual
machines in the cloud, or in private
data centres.
Tedial (See page 64) will be
showing enhanced web-based
technology for Tarsys. This features a
uniﬁed interface for users to access
content and workﬂow management
from a single screen. Casual or
expert operators can locate content
and initiate workﬂows to edit or
transcode selected content. Tarsys is
designed to work in many languages
and character sets. Tedial will also
demonstrate at enhanced version
of Ficus. The new version makes it
possible to access workﬂows across
multiple sites, enabling broadcasters
to re-allocate tasks based on local
technical or human resources
or to take advantage of available
expertise across the enterprise

and beyond to third-party facilities.
Also being promoted at NAB 2013
will be Tedial’s Media Amigo Content
Exchange. Following a recent major
project linking five independent
Scandinavian broadcasters, Tedial
has created what is effectively a
private cloud allowing free exchange
of programmes for subsequent
transmission.
Telestream is introducing a new
GPU-accelerated video transcoder
developed speciﬁcally to automate
content preparation and delivery
for cable VOD and IPTV workﬂows.
Designed in partnership with
Manzanita Systems, the new
Vantage Cable/IPTV transcoder
offers control over transport stream
multiplexing and metadata.
Thomson Video Networks’
Sapphire MPEG broadcast server
is claimed to be a unique channelin-a-box system with advanced
capture, playout, and regionalisation
capabilities. It can operate frameaccurately with MPEG-2 and H.264
compressed content. Sapphire is
designed to provide all the functions
needed to ingest, process, brand,
and generate TV channels ready
for air. Thomson Video Networks
will demonstrate how secondary
networks can be deployed using
Sapphire product to perform optout, ad insertion, branding, and
EAS functions.
