roubleshooting an entire system
to isolate a single discrepancy
can take hours of valuable
engineering time. Better access to
metadata has been sorely needed
in the broadcast industry for some
time. When there’s a discrepancy or
signal failure, learning what caused
it is critical to ﬁxing it.
That’s why we’ve added advanced
metadata harvesting capability to
the Monitor IQ broadcast monitoring
system. This unique feature tracks
any data that’s been logged and
collects various logs, discrepancy
reports, and data alarms as well
as the broadcast feed. It can help
in identifying where any error
occurred in the broadcast signal,
collect forensic analysis about the
event, and report that data back to
the customer.
With this feature, engineers can
harvest metadata and map it to the
recorded video content for more indepth analysis and troubleshooting
– immediately indicating when, where

and how the video was recorded.
It enables station executives and
engineers to hyperlink straight
to the reported video and view a
problem, thereby streamlining and
improving the efﬁcacy of broadcast
discrepancy reporting.
It can capture all types of audio
and video metadata in the broadcast
signal. And it provides access to
all classifications of metadata,
including technical, descriptive,
time-stamped and event parameters.

The solution provides up to eight
I/O channels of high quality ingest
in multiple video formats, including
DVCPRO, DNxHD and JPEG2000,
with synchronised slow motion
replay and powerful yet simple
editing tools.
PlayMaker is suited to live

outside broadcast productions as
well as sports highlight editing in a
studio environment.
When working in a studio
environment, PlayMaker offers a
dedicated work mode for highlight
editing of multiple playlists from
various incoming feeds.

PlayMaker’s Studio mode provides
multiple key tools including in/out
points that are added directly to
the playlist. Clips are automatically
created for later use.
With multiple active playlists,
switching inputs automatically
changes the target playlist, thereby
ensuring that the correct clip goes to
the correct playlist. Switching inputs
automatically re-cues the last time
code position.
At NAB 2013, Orad will showcase
PlayMaker’s new Smart Events
tagging capability. The PlayMaker
Smart Events engine is a powerful
tagging and sorting tool that tags
clips with descriptive metadata. With

minimal effort, the operator can add
metadata directly from PlayMaker’s
controller. Each new clip can be
tagged with up to six multiple events
from six different categories, with 25
tags in each category. To streamline
the preparation process, tags can
be preloaded from an external
ﬁle, or can be edited directly from
the controller.
In tapeless workﬂows, each clip
can be exported with all its relevant
metadata to the NLE environment
and archives, eliminating the need
for expensive and time-consuming
post-game tagging. The entire
tagging and search process is
made directly from the PlayMaker
control panel.
With its ‘PlayNet’ module,
PlayMaker provides Gigabit network
ﬁle sharing between servers for
preview, copy, or instant playout of
clips from remote servers, as well as
export to Avid, FCP, Adobe Premiere,
and other industry standard systems
via standard Ethernet.
