Technologies is used as a universal
control system in the broadcasting
ﬁeld.
Manufacturer independent, VSM
is easy to integrate in newly created
and existing hardware environments.
VSM is an IP-based control
system offering seamless and
trouble-free operation with a large
number of hardware components
through implementation of third
party protocols.
Combined with LSBs freely

VSM offers simple reconﬁguration

Advantages of the VSM are its
ﬂexibility and safety. If studio setups
or entire production conditions
change, it is easy to reconﬁgure
the system without reprogramming.
Installation on up to 16 redundant
servers ensures safety when used
live and reliability for broadcasting
and production. It does not require
a master/slave server cluster script.
The system is able to divide all
connected devices between the
servers so as to guarantee both the
best load distribution and optimum

system performance.

mobile production

are the integrated
tally function that
obviates the need
for an independent
tally system. Other features include
the signal bundle management that
brings together different signal
types and treats them as one and
the audio follow video management.
More features are the rapid
preparation through use of virtual
cameras, no time-consuming tally
script conﬁguration and the simple
switching between 3D productions
and 2D productions.
In TV and radio studios the VSM
enables optimum use of studio
complexes. The ‘boxing’ function

enables production setups of whole
studio and production areas to be
stored as one and to be restored
with a press of a button.
As a result every available studio
can be used as a back-up studio
for production work, even in the
event of differences in the installed
hardware. ‘Boxing’ is therefore
the ultimate solution in cases
where damage occurs and where
recovery is required.
Other features include the dynamic
router-timeline management with
transparent tally script or systemwide, global snapshots to retrieve
reoccurring setups.

is a cloud based video logging,
reviewing and editing platform that
is simple enough for producers and
directors, yet responsive enough
for editors, enabling professionals
to collaborate on video projects
anytime, anywhere.
FORscene’s December 2012 edit
release, designed in consultation
with professional editors, is the
ﬁrst step in achieving their goal for
2013 and features additional edit
functions and reﬁned monitoring
and feedback devices:
• The addition of time indicators
and reﬂection of marked in and
out points on the timeline are
useful additions that don’t impact
on the clean look of the interface;
• Frames or clips that already
appear in the timeline are now
marked with distinct yellow

hazard lines and duplication is
easily trimmed away with realtime display updates;
• The ability to select and move
multiple clips or tracks on the
timeline and the standardised
parent naming of subclips
makes it easier to reorganise
segments within a sequence
whilst constructing storylines;
• Because editing fades, transitions
and motion effects all make use of
the trim tool, simply adding more
detailed duration information
to this trim tool has improved
functionality across these other
areas as well, providing editors
with far more control over this
range of tools.
In addition to these changes to
the interface and edit functionality,
the back end has been
upgraded to improve the overall
FORscene experience.

Time spent waiting for media is
drastically reduced as users can
work more easily with media that
is in the process of uploading to
their account – playback pauses
if it reaches the end of a live
video and resumes as the media
becomes available.
The publishing status has been
updated to include upload box
connection information, alerting
users to any media access issues
that may arise.
A key factor to any post production
software’s success is the ability
to integrate cost effectively with
existing infrastructure.
Building on this FORscene clients
are now able to import Sony XMPilot
markers along with their media into
FORscene accounts, view and edit
these source markers and create
sequence markers in FORscene and
export EDLs or logs including marker

information into Avid.
In addition the FORscene Cloud
Servers have new publishing
features, support for IPv6, wider
unicode capability and support for
more closed caption input formats.
As cloud based post-production
grows in popularity and new
products emerge, Forbidden has
the advantage of eight years of
experience in successfully providing
FORscene as a browser based
video application.
