ARRI FRO Uses Telecast CopperHead

RRI has selected and deployed
Miranda Technologies’ Telecast
CopperHead Fibre Optic Camera
Transceiver system as an integral
component of ARRI’s new Fibre
Remote Option (FRO) for its ALEXA
and ALEXA Plus camera models.
Fibre connectivity permits the
ALEXA’s unparalleled image quality,
already highly sought after for ﬁlmstyle, single camera production,
to be used for live, multi-camera
productions. The FRO consists of
a Fibre Remote Box mounted on
top of the ALEXA camera, coupled
with a Telecast CopperHead 3400
system, which includes a cameramountable transceiver, base station
and CHRCP-2050 remote camera
control panel.
The CopperHead 3400 system is
ARRI-certiﬁed as an essential thirdparty accessory that enables the
ALEXA cameras to be connected
and remotely controlled via
SMPTE 311M fibre.
Proprietary software developed by
ARRI for the CopperHead remote
camera-control panel makes it
possible to control RGB gain,
gamma, shutter, iris and all other
parameters typically associated
with broadcast cameras while
retaining ALEXA’s 35mm filmic
look. Adding the ability to perform
live image painting enables ALEXA
camera users to extend its high
value image qualities to live, multi-

camera productions using familiar
broadcast-style joystick and
rotary controls.
Marco Lopez, Miranda’s President,

ALEXA camera system to operate
at its full dynamic range, delivering
a much broader range of options for
directors to capture the look and feel
they desire.”
CopperHead is specifically
designed to provide a robust ﬁbre
link between camera
and truck or studio,
simultaneously
converting baseband
signals from 3G/HDSDI outputs to optical
and transferring
them over a single,
lightweight ﬁbre optic
cable to a CopperHead base
station for insertion into a
live production. This provides the
ability to integrate live imagery
into any studio or production
room environment.

Among other productions, the
ALEXA FRO was effectively used
to transfer images for the recently
released COLDPLAY LIVE 2012
DVD, capturing detailed highlights
and shadows, rich colour and
natural skin tones.

the strongest microphone cable
manufactured by Belden, featuring
a minimum pull strength of 113kg.

The cable is engineered with high
strength custom alloy conductors

and a tough EPDM rubber jacket,
making it ideal for rental houses
and other applications where
microphone cables face repeat
use and damage. Brilliance 1776 is
available as a cost saving put-up of
75 meters (250 feet).

for applications where full-size
microphone cables are too large.
The Brilliance 2221 Compact
Digital Microphone Cable is small
enough for hand-held solid-state
recording devices (SSD) with
miniature microphone connectors,
such as those from Lemo, Neutrik or
Switchcraft, or those using Bantam
or TT jacks as the balanced line input.
With an impedance of 110 ohms,
the cable is able to carry digital
audio. Its ultra-low capacitance of
42.7pF/m makes it one of the ﬁnest
performing digital cables available
on the market.
Brilliance 2221 is suitable for
use as an analogue or digital patch
cable where Bantam or TT patch
connectors are used. It can also
be used as a DMX lighting control
cable when small size and ﬂexibility
are required.
