Harris Broadcast’s
new Platinum IP3 router

Harris Broadcast’s new Platinum
IP3 router is claimed to be the ﬁrst
router broadcast to accommodate
separate video, audio and data paths
within the same frame. It allows
multi-format signal routing up to 576
x 1024 in a single 28 rack unit frame.
The Platinum IP3 can scale to at
least 2048 x 2048 in multi-frame
configurations without external
distribution ampliﬁers or combiners.
JVC will exhibit a sub-$1,000
fast-motion camcorder designed
to capture high-quality video of
fast-moving action. The GC-PX100
shoots full HD 1920 x 1080/60p
video at 36 megabit per second
which JVC claims is fast enough to
allow full HD slow-motion playback
for motion analysis or special effects.
The camcorder has an F1.2 lens,
1/2.3 inch 12.8 megapixel backilluminated CMOS sensor and optical
image stabilisation. Five shooting
speeds are available, from 120 to
600 frames per second, selectable
using a dial located next to the lens.
It is also possible to acquire bursts
of nine still images from video at the
touch of a button, similar to what
can be done using the motor drive on
an SLR still camera. Other shooting
modes include high-speed digital
still recording at up to 60 frames
per second and variable speed timelapse recording. Video can be sent
wirelessly to a smartphone or tablet.
A three-inch tiltable LCD monitor
allows high and low angle recording.
Netia will demonstrate the
latest version of its Radio-Assist

range of digital audio automation
software. Radio-Assist 8.1 offers
tools for multimedia production
and broadcast along with two
new features: integrated musicscheduling application and video
editing. Both new features can
be accessed from a single user
interface. The Radio-Assist software
covers each part of the production
and broadcast workﬂow, allowing
users to record, edit or prepare a
playlist. In addition to new browsing
and publishing tools, the software
allows acquisition, sound-ﬁle editing,
commercial and music production,
newsroom systems, scheduling,
multicasting, and administration.
The video editing tool complement
the software’s Snippet and Snippet+
audio editing tools.
NewTek’s Virtual Set Editor 2
software for its TriCaster allows
creation and customisation of virtual
studio environments and visual
effects for any video production
without requiring actual studio space.
It can also be installed on a separate
Microsoft Windows workstation in
addition to the TriCaster system, for
collaborative production. Multiple
live video inputs can be placed
within the set, scaled, rotated and
mapped to ﬁt 3D shapes such as
curved ‘virtual video walls’.
NTP Technology’s AX32
mastering-quality audio AD/
DA converter allows large
multi-microphone arrays to be
accommodated without the need to
transport a second processor. All 32
microphone feeds can be connected
back to the control room along a
single Cat 5 cable via fully transparent
and uncompressed IP Ethernet. A
development of the 24-channel
AX24, the AX32 incorporates via
IP Ethernet capabilities allowing
audio to be networked from one
studio to another or across a large
building complex. The Ethernet IP
audio interface handles up to 512
channels and uses Audinate Dante
technology. AES/EBU and MADI
inputs and outputs plus a Gigabit
Ethernet IP interface are provided for
use with a Dante Virtual Soundcard
for PC, Apple Mac and other Dante
compatible devices.

Panasonic’s NAB exhibit will
include the P2 cam AG-HPX600
running AG-SFU603G software to
integrate LiveU’s LU40 clip-on video
uplink. The LU40 unit and the AGHPX600 connect via SDI and USB.
Live camera video (HD/SD signals)
can be transmitted through up to six

connections via the LU40. Uplink
‘start-and-stop’ can be controlled
from the AG-HPX600. The LU40’s
status can be displayed on the AGHPX600 viewﬁnder, enabling camera
operators to relay live video securely.
Panasonic’s microP2 card and AVCUltra codec are also supported.
Anticipating the need for greater
deployment ﬂexibility to support new
services and delivery modes, Pixel
Power will introduce a new ﬁlebased rendering system that delivers
the capabilities of the Pixel Power
graphics hardware in a softwareonly version which runs on standard
IT hardware. The new software will
render audio and video ﬁles using
the same template-based system
as Clarity hardware systems. It can
render and composite graphics over
video clips. Asset management and
ﬁle delivery features offer scheduledriven work order processing with
flexible prioritisation to manage
multiple distributed instances of
the renderer. Applications include
IPTV and nonlinear television
services, content repackaging and
news production.
Polecam will demonstrate

IP input options, and supports full
use of SMPTE 2022 (CoP3) forwarderror correction.
Vislink will exhibit the latest
version of its Advent Mantis MSAT
Portable Data Terminal. The Mantis
MSAT is a 12.5 kilogramme goanywhere satellite terminal that
can be set up to start transmitting
data and video in as little as ﬁve
minutes. It supports X, Ku and now
Ka Band conﬁgurations, which can
be swapped in the ﬁeld in under
a minute. Also on show will be
Vislink wireless camera transmitters,
including the Clip-On 4 transmitter
which is designed for use with
HD and SD cameras in electronic
newsgathering, outside broadcasts
and studio applications. It offers
single frame latency and the latest
H.264 or MPEG-2 encoding.
Wohler’s RadiantGrid New
Media Automation Platform is
designed to perform file-based
creation, standards conversion,
quality control, and distribution of
content. It integrates
with trafﬁc, rights
management,

the new Resolve
Optics Z10-HDcf ultra
compact HD mini zoom
lens which is designed to
complement small proﬁle HD
cameras such as the Toshiba range.
This 10x C-mount lens design uses
ﬂoating cell technology which allows
smaller motors to be used to drive
the movements. An F1.8 aperture
can be maintained throughout 80%
of the zoom travel, with a minimum
aperture of F2.8. The rear cells are
customer changeable. Dimensions
of the 2.3 inch lens are 45 mm
square x 100 mm long.
Sencore’s new MRD 5800
modular receiver/decoder supports
high quality contribution video
feeds and provides H.264, MPEG2, 4:2:2, 4:2:0, 10-bit and 8-bit
decoding with automatic detection
and conﬁguration. The MRD 5800
is designed for many contribution
environments such as large-venue
OB productions, satellite trucks, and
ﬁxed-point contribution, as well as
distribution in which tools such as
4:2:2 chroma sampling are in use. It

Plenty of rumblings about new and
affordable 4K production kit as we
go to press but nothing ﬁrm enough
to put in print. Don’t assume that 4K
only means bigger screens; higher
pixel count means better picture
quality even in a small display
provided the images are not spoilt
by compression artifacts.
