TV Connect – The Global Ecosystem Show
Amid a background of increasing convergence, TV Connect, March 19 to 21, is the show to meet and
network with the global connected media and entertainment community…

V Connect offers the opportunity
to meet a diverse range of
service providers; whether these
are broadcasters, telcos, content
providers or OTT players. The
event continues to have a truly
global reach attracting senior level
executives from all six continents,
with 2012's event having 83
countries in attendance.
The show, more than any other,
reﬂects the convergence of the media
ecosystem in bringing together the
biggest innovators from the OTT
and IPTV ecosystems attracting over
7,000 annual attendees.
It brings together the biggest
innovators in the industry with Bob
Zitter, EVP and CTO of Home Box
Ofﬁce (HBO) and Daniel Danker,
General Manager of On Demand
at the BBC, leading industry players
in the OTT space, keynoting
on Day Three.
Zitter, who has been a technology
leader and innovator throughout
the history of HBO and within the
industry at large, is responsible
for overseeing the company’s
technology efforts worldwide
including consumer technology,
distribution, origination, production
operations, engineering and IT, as
well as overseeing HBO’s research
and development related to
emerging new media platforms.
Zitter will present on ‘Understanding
the Role of HBO in Being the
Market Leader in New Technology
Development’.
“Interactivity and convergence
with the Internet are enabling
television to become more than a
passive medium,” comments Zitter.
“Viewers are able to dive deeper into
the story, access sports statistics
to supplement the game, or share
their thoughts with their friends.
Advertisers are able to target speciﬁc

viewers in meaningful ways (see the
press reports on how Obama won
the US election!).
“Mobility and portability of video
programme distribution will, in my
opinion, have a profound impact
on the television business. As
viewers are able to consume
programming outside the home,
so many opportunities arise and
will evolve. In the end, consumers
want to control what they watch,
when they watch it, and on what
device they use. Success in the
television programming business
will recognise and serve this need,
without regard to the distribution
technology,” says Zitter.

Experience,
Monetise, Deliver
The overall conference programme
will reflect the nature of the
industry convergence by focusing
on three tracks; Experience,
Monetise and Deliver.
These will, over three days, cover
the key challenges and opportunities
presented in the industry. A highlight
of these tracks will be premium
interactive panel discussions, where
the key issues will be addressed
in detail by the major players in
the market. Each day will also kick

off with a keynote session, whose

Cable and Liberty Global.
A key focus of this year’s show
will be gaming, this is reﬂected in
the opening keynote which will be
given by a huge and visionary ﬁgure
in the gaming industry, Richard
Hilleman, Chief Creative Ofﬁcer at
Electronic Arts
Hilleman comments on gaming’s
role within the evolving connected
entertainment ecosystem:
“Connected TV has several
advocates driven by different goals.
In the US and Europe, it is trying
to gain attention on a screen that
has a lot of other content already,
including a gaming console. In this
case, the connected TV market will
need to ﬁnd a hole, or displace an
existing business. In some other
territories, there is more open space
for connected TV to ﬁnd its own
place and define its own value
proposition.”
This year the event includes a
free Gaming Connect session on
Day One as part of the Connected
Innovation Theatre, further echoing
the show’s theme. Here visitors can
learn about the opportunity that
competitive entertainment offers
service providers, operators, content
providers, gaming developers, social
media networks and publishers.
Vendors are also welcome as latest
developments will be revealed
on how delivery space, cloud
innovation and gaming networks
can help enhance the real-time
experience in a multiplatform world.
“This is a fast-moving business

with a particular collection of gaming
technical assets, and creative
processes. It will be a learning curve
for everyone,” concludes Hilleman

Enhanced Elements
In reflection of the increasing
convergence of key players we
have introduced three key new
sessions free to all on the show
ﬂoor; Gaming Connect, Devices
Connect and Creative Connect.
These sessions in the Connected
Innovation Theatre will be open to
all and focus on three very exciting
and growing parts of the industry.
Online gaming is a major focus of
this year’s show and this will be
reﬂected in having a day-long free
session focused on it.
Also conﬁrmed for 2013 will be
Viacom to run this year’s Media
Leadership Summit, a highlight of
last year’s show. This is a major,
brand led session, run by Viacom
International Media Networks
who will discuss their innovation
in shaping the future of Social
TV and multiscreen content. This
will be led by the internationally
respected innovator, European SVP,
Phillip Bouchier O’Ferral. The TV
App Hub will also be returning for
a third year, discussing the huge
monetisation opportunity presented
to developers by multiscreen and
smart tv applications; conﬁrmations
include OIPF and TV App Agency
workshops. Finally a new addition
to the show ﬂoor this year will be our
Content Bazaar. This will provide a
regional showcase for broadcasters
across the globe to demonstrate
their innovation in the multiplatform
marketplace.
