TV Berlin Boosts Live Coverage
GER: TV Berlin, the German city’s local channel, has vastly increased use of live content in its broadcasts via LiveU’s LU60 technology. TV Berlin selected LiveU’s technology following a series of tests, highlighting its strong performance and easy integration into existing workflows. The channel is now using the technology for live feeds during a daily news show and also longer live segments for the channel’s breaking news show. The service and equipment is provided by LiveU’s German distributor, Netorium GmbH.

Miranda Technologies Recommends Belden Offer
Miranda Technologies has entered into an agreement with Belden to offer to purchase all outstanding common shares of Miranda by way of a take-over bid. The offer, priced at C$17.00 per share in cash, represents the culmination of the strategic review process initiated by the corporation’s board of directors in March 2012 in order to review opportunities to further enhance value and build on the corporation’s momentum. A special committee of the board of directors led the review process. The special committee considered how best to ensure that any transaction would both recognise Miranda’s value and its success to date, as well as its future prospects, and position Miranda’s business effectively for continued growth. During this process, the corporation received enquiries and proposals and had discussions with a number of parties, including Belden, who expressed an interest in acquiring the Corporation. Miranda’s Board of Directors unanimously recommend to shareholders that they accept the offer. Commenting on the transaction, Strath Goodship, Miranda’s President and Chief Executive Ofﬁcer, stated: “The offer by Belden reﬂects the value created by our employees, management team and Board of Directors. This is an attractive opportunity for Miranda shareholders to realise a signiﬁcant premium for their shares in an all cash deal. Belden has a strong portfolio of successful businesses, proven experience with many of our broadcast customers, and a solid reputation in Canada and Montreal.”

Aspera Integrated BOSS Solution
USA: Aspera and Dimetis have announced a technology alliance and partnership along with the availability of the Aspera integrated BOSS FILE TRANSFER Manager. The Dimetis BOSS FILE TRANSFER Manager brings connectivity and automation to data exchange workflows by moving large media ﬁles while hiding system and workﬂow complexity from the end user.

SWR Airs With ASTRA Studio 2
6 Südwestrundfunk (SWR) is now onair with Aveco’s studio automation solution, ASTRA Studio 2. SWR’s three production control rooms, each of which is conﬁgured differently, can control any of its four studios. Project Manager for SWR, Udo Fettig, said: “ASTRA Studio 2 is uniquely able to support the complex processes that we have in our virtual studio where we produce our news shows. Studio 2 now has control of the camera robotics, the camera movements, and the virtual studio system. “For other productions, we use Studio 2’s basic features for a lower level of automation. Of special interest was Studio 2’s Preproduction Mode which lets us stop the recording, set a new splice point in the timeline view and then continue with the recording. Being able to combine production automation with studio automation and do preproduction at the same time with the same system made this an easy decision.” Products integrated into the solution by system integrator Wellen & Nöthen included Annova’s OpenMedia advanced newsroom system, Vinten and CameRobot robotics, Sony video mixers, Lawo audio mixers and an MA Lighting grandMA lighting control console.

Autodesk Smoke Trial Available
USA: Autodesk Smoke 2013, a completely redesigned and repackaged pre-release version of the all-in-one video editing and visual effects tool for the Mac, is now available as a free trial download from their website. Smoke can help editors simplify workﬂow, centrally manage media, work interactively with high-res media throughout projects and deliver high-end content on the most recent generation of Apple iMac and MacBook Pro systems.
