DiGiCo Release Consoles Range
DiGiCo has released a range of consoles that provide a simple approach to mixing in the digital domain
Since 2002, DiGiCo have been developing and releasing products tailored to offer key features that are budget acceptable. The company, however, have never forgotten their Soundtracs roots. Soundtracs, the original company purchased by DiGiCo, has now released application specific versions for a number of its desks. The move has made as much of a mark in the broadcast industry as its original range in the live sector. The current range of DiGiCo SD consoles is built around the Super FPGA and Stealth Digital Processing. This is a scalable platform that provides a common interface across the entire range, which means that once you know one console, you know them all. The sonic quality is matched across the range. Each console incorporates an integrated audio engine, operating system and dual power supplies combined within the console work surface, a digital snake and studio quality remote control pre-amps. Three consoles in the DiGiCo range are currently dedicated to the needs of the broadcast industry, via a broadcast speciﬁc application extension: the ﬂagship SD7, the SD10 and the smallest in the range, the SD11. All consoles are compatible with DiGiCo’s SD racks providing a wide range of IO options. This includes the HD-SDI card allowing users to de-embed and re-embed any combination of up to four of the available eight AES3-compatible streams per I/O module. AES42 and AES on BNC modules are also available, and the rack provides both Gain Tracking and multiple split options. The SD7B, the ‘B’ sufﬁx denotes its broadcast specific nature, has a feature set that has been created to manage the extensive and challenging work of the broadcast market. In addition to the standard console’s feature set, it handles up to 952 simultaneous optical I/O plus 224 MADI, 24 analogue and AES/EBU connections. It can run two high speed Optocore loops with any combination of 448 inputs and outputs on each loop and all at 96KHz, while the local I/O connections are ideal for fast outside

broadcast setup before setting up the racks. Backstop PFL is available on every channel, while 256 dynamic EQ processors are available on any input or output on each band of EQ, as are 256 multiband compressors. 48 simultaneous internal Stealth digital effects, from a library of 33, are also provided. As with the SD7B, the SD10B’s broadcast specific feature set includes such innovations as multi-channel ‘folding’ down to a single fader, allowing users to conﬁgure stereo, LCR, 5.1, or up to 11 mono channels under a single fader strip that can be unfolded for individual control, or neatly folded up for convenience and efﬁcient work surface use, making it an exciting, cost-effective option for any broadcast project. The SD11 is designed to be equally at home as a desktop console or mounted in a 19” rack. By removing the end cheeks and armrest, 19” rack ﬁxings are revealed, making it straightforward to incorporate into any touring or installation environment. The broadcast application s p e c i f i c extension for the SD11 makes this a powerful yet compact console for even the smallest OB truck in the broadcast market, especially with its 5.1 capability, multichannel folding and monitor matrix. DiGiCo’s Solutions division offers

a number of addition products, including UB MADI, a revolutionary plug-and-play device that allows any computer to instantly connect to MADI via USB 2.0, delivering 48 simultaneous inputs and outputs. Automatically detecting the MADI input format and clock selection, it communicates with a PC or Mac as a standard ASIO or Core Audio interface. “Listening to and understanding what engineers require has always been fundamental to our business and has enabled us to produce products that are what individual markets want and need,” says DiGiCo Managing Director, James Gordon. “We have worked
